Delaware has a written rule that there’s no preference for shirt color which has failed to displace the unwritten rule that the shirt should be white
Proper Attire
a. Counsel should wear formal business attire. Counsel is not restricted to,
nor does the Court have any preference for, a shirt or blouse of any
particular color.
b. The court does not have any preference regarding skirts or dresses
versus pantsuits.

There are appellate reasons to move for it even if it’s not getting granted.
It is a familiar rule of appellate practice that the legal sufficiency of the evidence to establish a claim or defense is a question of law which must be preserved for appellate review by a motion for judgment as a matter of law under CPLR 4401 (a motion for a “directed verdict” in common parlance) before submission of the case to the jury.

A party’s failure to move pursuant to CPLR 4401 for judgment as a matter of law at the close of the evidence is generally deemed an implicit concession that the evidence presented a question of fact for the jury. See Miller v. Miller, 68 N.Y.2d 871, 872 (1986).

Thus, raising the issue of insufficiency of the opponent’s proof for the first time after trial, by way of a post-verdict motion for judgment under CPLR 4404, will not operate to preserve this issue for appellate review.

On 22 December 1797 Phoebe captured the French 36-gun Néréide, Captain Antoine Canon.[11] Phoebe sighted the Néréide at 10am; the pursuit started at 11:30am and ended at 10:45pm with Néréide's surrender. During the chase Néréide fired her stern guns at Phoebe and the two vessels exchanged broadsides shortly before the Néréide surrendered. Phoebe lost three men killed and 10 wounded; Néréide lost 20 men killed and 55 wounded. Part of the reason for the disparity in casualties was that the ratio of the weight of the broadsides was 407 pounds (185 kg) to 268 pounds (122 kg).[12] In 1847, the Admiralty awarded the Naval General Service Medal with clasp "Phoebe 21 Decr. 1797" to all remaining members of her crew who had participated in the action.

Very stupid and reminds me of a great story from Massachusetts labor history: in the 50s, the meat packers union won the longest strike in state history in part because it was so racially integrated that it managed to organize the Black scabs the company brought in from the south.

Shouldn’t you extend the same generosity to other people, who didn’t think she could win or that she was the best candidate?

This is a book about my experience.

It’s also attacking people with other opinions.

Yeah, but I have every right to talk about my experience and my perspective. That’s not taking away from others.

Fucked up that the government isn't making grandma sell her house before she can get a home health aide, or at least taking it from her grieving children after she kicks it.
Unfortunately, several studies show that many older people with significant real estate and financial asset holdings get long-term care from Medicaid for free or at subsidized rates. These findings should not be surprising because, in many states, the rules and administration of the program are loose and porous, and little effort is made to recover assets from the estates of deceased Medicaid users, despite this being required by federal law. By my estimate every year almost $6 billion of Medicaid funds are inappropriately used for the long-term care of individuals with significant asset holdings. Breaking this amount down, almost $3 billion could be recuperated from enhanced estate recoveries and more than $3 billion from retirement assets.

Insane. A judge playing peek-a-boo with himself to decide how look to lock someone up.
The state asked for a 9.5-year sentence, and the judge ended up giving Horcasitas 10.5 years for manslaughter, after being so moved by the powerful video, family says. The judge even referred to the video in his closing sentencing statements.

@dexanderson.com

Just got word from my college roommate - who is the state archivist for the state of South Dakota - that due to the DOGE shutdowns of IMLS, they can no longer fund InterLibrary Loan in SD.

This means exchange between libraries, ability to get books delivered across the system, is gone as of 4/30.

In what sense is a zone "demilitarized" when it's full of Israeli military bases?
