The thing is that I did not know this could be a solution. I wrote the adventure, I put all the clues and interactions there, but to me this outcome was unthinkable until the players made it inevitable. It's the 4th time I'm running this. Every time I see new amazing ideas coming from players

The Lizardfolk that took the catnip were also poisoned, and now they are siding with the PCs to face the snakefolk priests that poisoned them. The party went to "we are all going to be sacrificed" to having an army of Lizardfolk to overthrow the Slithering God and its servants

Praise Mboikangue has a gimmick that PCs can accidentally (or not so much) become a part of a cult. If they drink poisoned alcohol, for example, they get a handout that welcomes them to this sacrificial cult and gives them some guidelines of what that means. ...

My favorite types of players are: The notetaker, the one that brings good snacks, the one that remembers to take pictures of the miniatures and complex board setups, and the one that takes the game world very seriously. I feel lucky my groups usually manage to rotate in these functions :D

Copy this message with blood-infused ink and deliver it to 10 other people within 10 days, or I’ll visit you, and you will meet your end with the same barbed wire that killed me!
On the 5th of Soultide, William of Lake Hope laughed at this message and vanished without a trace. The same happened to Samara of Diamantine, and she was strangled by a snake the day after.

This weekend, I played in a MÖRK BORG tournament with ~50 players trying to reach the heart of Hell in 2,5 hours with as few deaths as possible. The grim reaper patrolled the tables, flail in hand, feeding slain PCs’ sheets to a shredder. All GMs had corpse paint. We didn’t win, but it felt like it.

I have friends that run D&D to their kids, and what they tend to do is to just omit references to blood and death. Enemies usually flee at zero HP, faint, or just disappear (depends on the type of monster, I guess)

I mean, you might add a mechanic because you expect it to structure play in a certain way and it doesn't. Then, if it is core to the gameplay it is dominant, and if it is in the background it is just a failed mechanic (submissive mechanic 🤔).
