As we work towards more #sustainable and biodiverse #landscapes, we must not overlook the importance of these silent custodians of the wild. Therefore, protecting vultures means protecting the balance of #nature (🧵 4/5)

International Biodiversity @ibioconsultants.com · 05/09/2025

Yet, many vulture species are under threat from #HabitatLoss and poisoning to declining food sources and clashes with infrastructure (e.g., electricity pylons, wind turbines). Their decline is not just a #conservation issue; it’s a #PublicHealth concern! (🧵 3/5)

International Biodiversity @ibioconsultants.com · 05/09/2025

Often seen as ominous or unclean, vultures are in fact ecosystem heroes! These scavengers play a critical role in maintaining #EnvironmentalHealth by efficiently disposing of carcasses, preventing the spread of disease, and supporting #NutrientCycling (🧵 2/5)

FUTURE: A LEGACY TO PROTECT
The future of the Amazon rain forest is in our hands. Protecting it means safeguarding unparalleled biodiversity, stabilizing global climate, and preserving invaluable indigenous knowledge. Investing in sustainable practices and conservation efforts now will ensure this vital ecosystem continues to thrive for generations to come, providing essential services to the entire planet.

020

International Biodiversity @ibioconsultants.com · 04/09/2025

Yet, the Amazon could help support: ▶️Advancing nature-based solutions ▶️Supporting indigenous-led conservation and land stewardship ▶️Aligning development with ecological integrity ▶️Biodiversity/Carbon credits may help but dependent upon quality of standard adopted (🧵4/5)

PRESENT: GLOBAL ECOLOGICAL POWERHOUSE
Today, the Amazon is indispensable. It harbors 10% of the world's known species, produces 6% of the world's oxygen, and influences global weather patterns. Its vast forests are crucial for carbon sequestration, acting as a critical buffer against climate change. Millions of people, including indigenous communities, depend directly on its resources and ecosystems for their livelihoods and cultural heritage.

120

International Biodiversity @ibioconsultants.com · 04/09/2025

The Amazon still remains under threat from deforestation, agriculture, extractive industries, and climate change. Estimates put it at 17% of the Amazon has been lost. Threats such as deforestation and climate change, mean the Amazon is at risk of collapse (🧵3/5)

Past: A Pleistocene Refuge
During the Pleistocene ice ages, when much of the Earth experienced dramatic climate shifts, the Amazon rain forest acted as a vital refuge. Pockets of rain forest persisted, safeguarding countless species and allowing them to re-colonize wider areas as conditions improved. This ensured the survival and diversification of its incredible biodiversity.

120

International Biodiversity @ibioconsultants.com · 04/09/2025

As one of the world’s most complex and vital ecosystems, the Amazon supports over 10% of known species, 400+ Indigenous communities and a significant portion of the planet’s carbon sequestration capacity (🧵2/5)

A timeless biodiversity stronghold - The Amazon rain forest has been a cradle of life for millennia, playing a critical role throughout histor
