I've only done one thing with AI that I ever liked. It's this unfortunately evergreen image.

I live in Tennessee's 7th district with the Aftyn Behn special election. Just got the neighborhood social pressure treatment and some new "compared to others in the state" one. Neat

Lots of great signs today at No Kings in Nashville. If I had to boil it down to two, it would be these...

Academia is great. I read a paper, edited a lecture, and ate my dog's leftover birthday cake for breakfast. Off to teach.

Time line cleanser. Rory turned 3 yesterday. Baked cake and barista knew her fav is watermelon. People signed a card. Some things are still good.

Anyone else using GroupMe for your classes? I'm a week in and it's already paying dividends by keeping my inbox cleaner and letting students chime in with helpful links and answering syllabus/reading questions. Also, my students voted on my office hours candy selection.

Voter Study group data from 2018. Abortion attitudes positively correlated with sexism. Regardless of party. Its about control over women.

Since it's relevant for literally just tonight, here's a throwback to me as Thénardier in Les Miserables back in College. So fun.

I don't know anything about soccer...but here's my idea. Each time a team scores, their goal post gets bigger and the losing team's post gets smaller. Like a fun handicap.

First TT year in the books. I lived in 4 different places, taught a million new preps, accidentally went to a Green Day concert (fav band), got a paper accepted (led by the exceptional @kevintmorris.bsky.social), made new MPSA friends, flagged a lot of Chat GPT, and missed my dog. Off to get her.

The Trump administration is specifically targeting professional researchers who study inequalities caused by threatened groups and poor institutional design. People who study how misinformation skews our views of one another and reality. The administration is attacking truth and justice.

Someone told me Trump isn't fascist because we don't have death camps yet. I responded that you can still be fascist without meeting the maximal definition of the term. Then I punctuated with, "you know someone is an Animorph even if they haven't completely turn into a giant squid yet."

Anyone else watching Daredevil: Born Again and also seeing Kingpin as an eerily close stand in for Trump II? Like, this was written and made waaaay before we got here. And it's basically prediction machine. Wild.

Booker ceding time to Bennet, who then asked if he would prefer a "5 minute or 5 hour question" was super cute and wholesome. Teachers who speak for over an hour at a time know...

The only good thing to come out of Trump's second term is that I get to refer to Pence as "Trump's first Vice President" and it always reads like a funny joke.

Dune Two has a run time of 2:46. But the 3 hour director's cut has a solid 15 minutes of people shaking the sand out of their shoes. So excited!

Students were split on whether attitudes were more fixed or flexible. So we did a good ol'fashion loss aversion activity. Gave original (1981) language. cc: @nathankalmoe.bsky.social Converse is next class.

Made coffee cake for Intro US students today to illustrate "marble cake" or cooperative federalism (the cinnamon swirls are the overlapping of state/national functions in policy domains). What's the difference between dual and cooperative? Cooperative tastes like coffee cake!

Anyway, I barely paid attention to Dune I, but really liked this one. I'll be stealing examples from it this semester for Methods and Political Behavior. Best part of the movie was Zandaya constantly making judgmental faces at people. Cheers!

And all this prophecy BS is a great example of being able to disconfirm, but never prove theories. Paul has to learn to "sandwalk good" and "ride worms" because the prophecy says Dune Jesus will do these. Failure of any of these would mean death, and thus show he's not Dune Jesus.

Paul wants his desert nickname to be "Stupid Mouse," and everyone laughs. Not this guy. He's already decided Paul is the best. He confirmation biases his way into convincing all his followers to think "Stupid Mouse" is cool, actually.

Watched Dune II last night and it honestly has a lot of great examples of political psych/social science concepts. For instance, this dude (Stilgar) is a paragon of motivated reasoning. In his eyes, Timothée Chalamet (Paul) can do no know.
