Its a great shame that significantly policy like this works slowly and silently in the background because she deserves more recognition that Orgeon policy is reacting to the housing crisis far better than places like California

For sure grade separation between major ped/cycle routes and roads is always the best. Also never understood why in the US on demand crossing such as the one this happened at use yellow lights and not red lights. Very different from Europe as you know.

Its super sad, a reflection of our times, and only one example of a great many following this path. But I’ll give you a counter point; She’s here from necessity, because her moral compass and daily existence demands this. That to me is vastly preferable to Raytheon etc making bank on this.

@melaniekebler.bsky.social do we have programs (of any form, not necessarily city driven) in Bend that help bring voters to ballot drop boxes (or visa versa). I’m thinking I guess particularly of those lacking there own transport

I think you have to be familiar with the local situation there to understand this better. Ebike penetration in this region is far higher than anywhere in N America. This is also a crowded old super touristic town and frankly there is ebike use that is problematic.

Im pro this kind of initiative to accelerate housing construction at the bottom end of the market, but this lack of transparency in OR seems like its counter to getting the best “bang for the buck” and public finance norms in general

Freshwater ecosystems cover less than 1% of the Earth's surface. They support 10% of all species and one third of all vertebrate species. Freshwater biodiversity has declined by an average of 83% since 1970 — a rate of collapse nearly twice as severe as marine or terrestrial ecosystems.

The real take away here is data centers are not “evil” nor all equal. If someone wants to build one in your local area get involved, make sure its built to maximize modern efficiencies. Look for kick back backs beyond tax revenue and jobs…renewable energy and water projects that aid your community.

Hopefully these two examples show that the energy density of the data center far exceeds what can be harvested from the roof and from a cost and design perspective there is no reason to place panels up there when space is not constrained. 4/x

Apples Prineville OR data center originally built power lines to bring hydro power from Bonneville dam on the Columbia river. More recently 3rd party solar arrays have been built in the adjacent desert to provide power (Facebook also party to this). maps.app.goo.gl/YC5H1wWbPFeQ... 3/x

Been seeing a lot of data center paranoia so going to try to give a serious answer. The operational expense of data centers is serious business and the people who build them at scale are smart. Renewables are very attractive as a power source, but you need a lot. Heres some examples: 1/x

This article confused me at first because the picture shows a classic arch dam which means each panel pretty much needs a different MPPT controller. Then I googled a picture of the actual project and found that the panels seem to have only 2 principle elevations and azimuths.

At an individual level you are right but theres a big systematic picture also. We need cities to be livable so need to be careful not to make our urban heat islands worse. That means tree cover and more greening and finding alternate places to reject heat to (Paris Seine river is great example)
