Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 14/08/2026I recently saw “Stage Fright” for the first time and thought it was great fun, though not Top 5 material. Dietrich and Alastair Sim in the same movie was pretty great, though I have a lot of questions for Hitch about his decision to cast his own daughter as a character named “Chubby Bannister” 000
Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 13/08/2026Working on my fifth production of it now. Never gets old. 000
Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 11/08/2026I’ve heard of this! Apparently cheese as collateral goes way way back in Italy. Honestly I get it 110

Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Not remotely the most unhinged stage direction in Shakespeare either. It’s hard to top “Enter a servant with two heads and a hand” 030

Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 20/05/2026Happened to me too a few weeks ago - my ID was way in the bottom of my bag so I tried to explain it was non alcoholic but they were not having it and I had to dig it out 110
Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 18/05/2026It MUST have been on purpose. “Tomorrow” was ringing out of every rehearsal studio in New York in 1978 and he was way too astute to copy the most famous melody in musical theater at the time and not realize it 010
Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 18/05/2026My favorite example of this is when “The Worst Pies In London” in Sweeney Todd includes a chunk of “Tomorrow” from Annie bc its saccharine ubiquity in the late 70s drove Sondheim nuts 000

Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 13/12/2025Yes when I was teaching undergrads they told me about this. Almost none of them had ever in their lives read an entire book. I’d assign them a Shakespeare play to read and so many of them literally couldn’t parse the words on the page. Not their fault but I was agog 100
Ian Gould @iangouldhere.bsky.social · 29/11/2025No idea what kind of actor I’d be without him. His plays came along at career turning points, first “Rough Crossing”, my first gig out of grad school, then “R&G Are Dead”, my first official Off-Broadway contract. Loved all his work so much.
