For a number of reasons I wouldn’t presume to advise, other than to say solidarity.

The barbarians can’t be at the gate if we are in fact the barbarians.

The only close family I have left in Iowa are around the Ames and Ankeny area, and I wonder if they reflect some of this demographically. Uncle is a hard MAGA business owner, cousins strong blue professionals, and aunt is red but really questioning the wisdom of that for some time now.

Maybe rather than add more fuel and fire, add an image of you reading to your children so people see how it's done. My life is immeasurably richer for these moments with my son.
