Hard to believe I put out an ambient record four years ago. I might never make another record like it, it’s special.

Everyone knows that Thin Lizzy’s Jailbreak is a classic. But am I crazy for preferring Bad Reputation? It’s close, but something about Bad Reputation has me.

This is freaking great though, these stories are so funny… and uniquely Bob. I’ll never look at a bottle of Sambuca the same way again.

Man, Pitchfork reviews used to be *so bad*: pitchfork.com/reviews/albu... This record still slaps! Certifiably still slappin’! Reviews like this are exactly why I didn’t read Pitchfork in college 😂

Is it time yet for a Nada Surf revival?

I really didn’t enjoy it, myself. Admittedly my first Lathimos, but movies that feel like they’re trying to “outsmart” me just make me mad. And, not for nothing, but the whole “Basket Case” bit wrung pretty hollow and damn near ruined the song for me.

I don’t think you’ve got a hot Bugonia take at all. I agree with you, but I think I liked the movie a lot less than you did…

The most compelling argument for this is that Sam was once a baby raised without ChatGPT, and look how he turned out.

This took me down a mental rabbit hole of “Danzig and Hugh Jackman both sing. Now I need a Les Miserables starring Danzig.”

I just learned that Danzig is 5’3”. This is blowing my mind.

I’m not exactly living proof of this, but I have spent the past three months listening almost exclusively to the classic Willie Colón and Héctor Lavoe albums. Very excited for Bad Bunny!

Is the CD era back? I think I missed it. Like I mean I have a nostalgia for it.

The Beatles invented Melt-Banana.

A photo of one of the pictures inside the Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour booklet from the original US vinyl LP. The Beatles are dressed in their animal costumes from the album cover, performing in a field of grass in front of a concrete structure and a line of people in white coats and skullcaps. There are four policemen standing on top of the concrete structure seen in the background.

I feel like Warehouse doesn’t get enough attention in the Dü discography (the “Dü-cography”?). I spent some time recently revisiting it, and man it is just loaded with some of their best writing. And I say that as a Zen Arcade guy.

Just a random reminder that trickle-down economics was invented by conservatives in the 1980s to justify massive tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. It’s been nothing short of a disaster.

Side note: The chapter in Greil Marcus’ Mystery Train is something I think about fairly often. That book is very special to me, but the chapter discussing Sly has always stayed with me.

One of the greatest and most fascinating figures in 20th century music, a total visionary with a unique vision. Even when that vision cratered by the end of the 60s, his body of work is a singular one. A true great. One of my all-time favorites.

I thought it was common knowledge that Herbie missed out on the Bitches Brew sessions. He’s talked about it several times. And, I mean, anybody paying attention knows that it’s Corea and Zawinul playing the dueling mystics in those sessions. Tsk tsk, Pitchfork! Very sloppy!

All that “yeah let’s try anything… everything!” energy. And a lot of tape manipulation. Really love the tables you posted for Pharaoh’s Dance, shines a lot on how unique it is.
