Just catching up on some tabs and I encounter this gold -- a supposed pip maintainer on a HN thread who doesn't know how uv works, but is fully convinced they do and can't understand why someone would want to use it.
A text-based forum thread arguing about features of pip vs. uv.

If you're ever feeling down, just head over to Facebook and read the comments on any one of Randy Feenstra's posts. He's a US House R(IA) running for governor in a pretty red state that HATES him.
Comments chiding Randy Feenstra on his Facebook post.

Today's local paper has steps one and two, right on the front page: 1. Target LGBT (mostly T), the smallest and most "vulnerable" class. Legislate them out of society. 2. Once that legislation is "tried and true" use it against all BIPOC to strip their identities.

Big fan of Bash hashmaps. I don't use them a ton, but I have a couple of common design patterns that are really nice. Here's an example -- I find it elegant! 🤷‍♂️ xeiaso.net/notes/2024/b...
Bash hashmap example. It consists of creating a map array with rename values for certain keys. With a simple Bash echo statement I can print the correct key value or a default placeholder.

I don't think it's a coincidence that younger students who are "naturally" good at math might struggle with less objective subjects that rely on some uncertainty that math doesn't typically tolerate. I find as I code more, math thinking comes easier to me. www.quantamagazine.org/mathematical...
When you do math, you’re exposed to the human thought process in a way that is really pure. It’s not just about understanding things, but about understanding things in a very childish, deep, naïve, super clear, obvious way. It’s very good training for creativity. It’s a scaffold for your imagination.

Walmart is telling you they're going to raise prices. Yada yada about MAGA voters getting what they asked for -- as long as consumers know that tariffs result in prices going up, retailers can raise the prices. This will happen regardless of the tariff existing. www.cnbc.com/2024/11/19/w...
On an earnings call, Lowe’s CFO Brandon Sink said about 40% of the company’s cost of goods sold comes from outside of the U.S., including direct imports and merchandise from national brands. He said tariffs “certainly would add product costs,” but added “timing and details remain uncertain at this point.”

In an interview with CNBC, CEO Marvin Ellison said like other consumer-facing brands and retailers, Lowe’s is concerned about the risk of higher costs. He said it’s already having conversations with suppliers about the “what ifs of tariffs,” as it waits to see what Trump’s policy change will ultimately look like.

“We’re not waiting to act,” he said. “We’ve got plans in place. We’ve got scenarios in place, and we’re trying to understand the implications.”

Even Gaetz tried to raise his eyebrows (he can’t anymore).
Matt Gaetz’s Botox riddled face, still surprised that he isn’t in jail already.
