Modern inkjet and lazer printers have raster engines that nowadays are tuned to make that conversion without the need for old print production artists. Especially those inkjets with 12 ink now.

Former print production artist here. When you learn the ropes of print, it comes into focus the strength of cmyk+. But in digital art, one should always work in rgb until you hand it over to a print production artist for print. Pantone is still alive for a good reason!
