There’s NOT 140,000+ people being evicted from THE CITY OF ATLANTA in 2026. That number came from a study based out of a housing lab at Princeton University. That lab looked at evictions for the region for 2025… Not the city.

It’s culture also comes from a large queer influence, American Christianity, lowercase ‘c’ conservatism, isolationism, white supremacy, Corporatocracy, boosterism, black respectability politics, nightlife, being sexually forward, and southern liberalism.

Atlanta’s culture since its founding has always been black, full stop. That means EVERY type of black. It’s been like that before and after emancipation… Blackness is at the heart of Atlanta. Where people have tried to reduce, reuse, and recycle

But the one thing I will give all of them is that Atlanta’s culture is something that recently seems to be defined, written, and sold, by people not from here Atlanta now is often by people who are defining it based on how THEY feel and how THEY see things, and often wrong

There are multiple subcultures of things in Atlanta that overlap each other and influence/interact/conflict with each other. Things that on paper don’t always make sense, but in the macro are part of a larger tapestry. Multiple truths, multiple experiences.

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but a lot of “content” being produced right now about Atlanta’s history focuses only on when they were young…or seems to be focused around signifiers to them, like hip-hop or the projects…
