I’d love to give you feedback…what’s the thing you’re working on?

I believe that you’re right and I would watch a documentary on why. It’s the craziest thing ever that cars can be so fully automated and homes…can’t…

Woah I saw one of his videos pop up on YouTube yesterday. Looks like a really fun adventure.

if you have a perspective on the question to offer, I'd love to hear it.

This is a fascinating question. Norton has a book called Fighting Traffic that I want to check out. Claude thinks one big reason was that US private rail was happy to drop passenger service in favor of commercial, while Europe chose to run unprofitably by nationalizing.

Is the experience of that damage mostly connected to the US Government or the people too?

In real time it looked incidental, and they didn’t even call it a foul until after VAR. It’s wild to think they saw enough to give red. Even in the replay, you can see him pulling up to try to reduce contact. Really frustrating officiating

Totally agree. there’s about to be a cottage industry of consultants helping companies figure this out.

Yea I got to USC in ‘08 and downtown was a ghost town with one coffee shop and 100 bad BBQ restaurants. It’s wild how much has changed.

You can tell Claude Code to copy something to your clipboard. If there's some really complicated script that it's having trouble with line breaks, just say "copy it" and it'll work.

amateur users of AI do not understand how difficult it is to babysit an AI agent while it tries to do something where precision matters.

Do you ever hotfix? We have a dev environment but it gets used for big feature testing. And then we hotfix into prod for little things. Deployment is a weak spot for me…curious for what you’ve learned.

Maybe I’m a cowboy but I’ve been running Claude dangerously, with 2-3 instances simultaneously, on the same project for months and it’s been fine.

Agreed. It felt slow. But Paris was unusually good, too.

I regularly have Claude Code hang, and then I copy/paste the last 500 lines and say “keep going.” I wonder if that will break too.

Do you say “turn this into a skill”? What’s the workflow to set up

You think? I kinda like the feature. Except I missed a day a few months ago that broke a like 3 year streak 🤣

I think this is a big unanswered question. I have a lot of experience with Laravel so directing an agent stays in control. But I couldn’t direct an agent well in an arbitrary coding setup.

Our city flag was adopted out of thin air about 7 years ago and it’s immensely popular. The key question for city flags should be “do residents choose to fly it?”

I’m not sure if you’re baiting or not but… between Dodd Frank, the equal rights act, fair lending practices and the consumer protection bureau… it’s hard to argue that the regulatory environment is worse for home ownership now than it was 100 years ago.

But housing-as-investment doesn’t work in an era of approximately-zero population growth. And it’s not like usury was invented in 1995.

Stephen Bateman @iambateman.com · 26/11/2025
One time I read someone say “housing can’t be both affordable and a good investment.” So I think we’re on the same team…I want affordable, stable housing for my community and I think we should use every tool we have to make sure it’s reality.
110
Stephen Bateman @iambateman.com · 26/11/2025
I’m not trying to shill for capital but it’s wrong to say that “build houses” ignores the investment-consumption problem. If there were 900% more houses, no PE firm would be buying them up. At some point even they would become unprofitable. What am I missing here?
100
Stephen Bateman @iambateman.com · 26/11/2025
it could make sense to make stricter rules around who can buy a home—preferring primary occupants. But wouldn’t encouraging more housing supply discourage the investment behavior? Investors buy *because* they think the shortage is durable.
