Profile alt text: a corgi holding a dog toy shaped like a medieval flail. A tuxedo cat glowers in the background. Some tech dipshit. I have two corgis, a cat, two rats, and one human child, in ascending order of how likely they are to eat me when I die.

1) she's right to say this and I agree 2) this is too stunningly evocative not to share

That rules, cats are so funny. One of our corgis had to wear a donut for a bit because she was over-grooming her feet. She's doing better now so it's off, but while she was wearing it one day she hit the dog door so hard it pushed the donut over her shoulders and high-centerd her
A merle cardigan corgi with a large grey fabric ring, or "donut collar", around her torso. It was supposed to be around her neck, but she hit the doggie door behind her and pushed it over her shoulders. Her tail is drooping sadly and she is not looking at the camera, and she is clearly unhappy.

The mountain goats have a cover of solidarity forever on one of the Jordan lake session albums, and I listened to those a ton with him in the car. When he was real little he would ask for the "onion song", you know, "onions make us strong" A little confused, but he had the spirit ❤️

It makes me super happy to hear that you're having a good experience, because 1) you deserve to have a good experience even if you're not a tech person! 2) linux has not always been good about recognizing #1, and I think this represents a large cultural change (laudatory)

I tried it about a decade ago and what I decided was "I can do this, but it will be very annoying and none of my games will work". Neither of those things are true now, and I've also benefited enormously from the community you describe, there's SO many helpful guides and forums!

From the other end of the spectrum, I'm quite good with tech, but I work with computers all day and the last thing I want to do when I switch from the bad screen in my office to the good screen on my couch is deal with more computer bullshit. Switching to linux has been a REALLY pleasant surprise.

Pretty much, yeah. Iirc it started out as a way to distinguish normal roads on the ground from newly built elevated roads. Most of those new elevated roads were freeways, so the usage drifted a bit and now I mostly hear "surface road" used to mean city / neighborhood streets.

You have to get lucky every time, the judge only has to notice once! In aggregate, those are bad odds!

The thing that struck me immediately after 9/11 was how racist and cruel people around me became. They were so excited about the opportunity to go enact some righteous violence, either in the middle east or at home against anyone suspiciously ethnic enough. A very specific kind of shared bond.

I think you'd want him at middle linebacker to have the green dot and make on the field adjustments based on mind reading. A guy who can go intangible would be a hell of a rushing threat, gotta have him on the field.

Genuinely impressed by this, and the mom watching with a big ol' grin makes it extra charming

I'm cautiously optimistic about this; there's a lot of potential bad scenarios for an ownership change, but we might be okay here. Someone in the nfc west shitposting subreddit made a fake article about musk buying the team a while back and I wanted to die

oh I've heard "that's mental" or just the exclamation "mental" used like "that's wild" or "wow" in some british books. 100% agree that it would feel bad in the brain to hear it nominalized for "mental health" and if someone did that at me, I would be very confused
110
Dog Dad Afternoon @iadria.bsky.social · 05/09/2026
"cyber" especially just feels so clunky and weird dumped into a sentence without an associated noun. I think "mental" would also be really jarring, but I'm not sure I've ever heard it used that way. I'm used to stuff like "nuclear" and "mobile", but the other ones do feel very odd to hear that way

I find these new microdramas lack the charm and style of the earlier genre entries like Makin' it Happen

When we brought her home, we named our cat Tyche, in honor of my childhood cat Lucky. We call her Tugboat, because she's built like a sturdy ironsides battleship but obviously calling a cat Battleship would be silly; she's too small! My kid calls her Tuggy or BoatBoat.

I genuinely did cut someone off once because I needed to shit so bad. I felt pretty bad about it but I had my blinker on and they were just camping in my blind spot, and we were going like 30 on city streets so at least it was more annoying than dangerous

I played XIV, like, years ago and I remember housing being really limited availability with, like, a lottery situation? Did they change that? I thought their housing stuff was always really cool, but being so hard to actually get was a bummer

Probably not; he was an english professor turned rare book dealer who was personally interested in native american history, culture, and art. He supported native rights and tribal sovereignty, and would write letters to our representatives about honoring treaty rights.

Oh wow, my dad had a couple of her books (the Atlas for sure, and I think at least one other) and admired her very much. She was an amazing woman, and I'm in awe of her composure and wit during what sounds like an otherwise boring and frustrating deposition

Wasn't sure what this meant so I went to wikipedia, and I love stories from the early days of baseball "For example, on July 22, 1884, manager Frank Bancroft of the Providence Greys wanted to relieve Charlie Sweeney after seven innings because the latter was allegedly drunk."

I think it's probably possible to do this in a way that doesn't make your average student want to kill themselves, but I have never seen a teacher attempt to do so, and I've seen a lot of teachers metaphorically jerking off over how their hard tests, only to end up curving everyone out to a B anyway

I understand, in a vacuum, why you might want to design an exam this way. I understand that it's pedagogically useful to understand the full range of your students' knowledge and capabilities. But it absolutely sucks out loud to TAKE such an exam, and getting blindsided by one is soul annihilating

Love it so much when a dog just forgets to furl their tongue back up.
Penny, a cardigan welsh corgi. She has brown fur on her back and sides and her ears and around her eyes. She has a white belly, white "socks", a white muzzle, and a wide white stripe up her nose. She is sleeping on her side on a comfy blue chair. Her little tongue is sticking about an inch out of her mouth.

You can't hear it, but she's snoring like a divorced alcoholic.

like, I don't have any personal animosity towards the guy, delivery driving is absolutely fucked and it's FedEx that decides how many drivers there are and what routes they run and those constraints are almost always impossible, so this is just a cost of doing business to them.

My wife's phone broke right before a trip and the fedex guy did that with the replacement we overnighted. We literally watched the truck drive through our complex without stopping. She called fedex and ended up getting them to send the driver back to try again. Dude was not happy, but we got it.
