I wouldn’t hold my breath. French are known for mass protests, Americans are not. Certainly not on the scale of the French.

When I finish one of my current reads I’m moving on to The Haunting of Hill House. Appropriate for the season.

Should probably start with people who have been around Patel while he’s been getting drunk.

Better yet, stop letting Republicans define everything that Democrats support. Democrats support an unequivocally good is idea, Republicans redefine it in everyone’s minds, Democrats accept that and move right. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Be proudly progressive and explain yourself. Or go away.

It’s a status quo that we cannot afford to accept. I don’t know the answer, but we need one. Maybe coalitions of local parties dedicated to opening the system as much as possible, and growing from townships to counties to congressional districts to states over time.

We do have other parties, and we need to figure out how to support them. It’s happened before and will happen again.

The GOP must experience maximum damage repeatedly. This will help to get rid of the traitors and teach the survivors that they cannot continue down their anti-American path. I’d love for the party to cease to exist, but that’s unrealistic. The Dems should have ceased to exist in the 19th century.

Sounds like she went beyond the provided training and taught herself. That’s priceless. I’ve yet to do a plantation tour. Hoping my first will be one that provides honest history. I did visit Jeff Davis’ final home in Biloxi, MS. The guide was both poorly informed and misinformed.

Sometimes an artist will speak with museum employees about a special exhibit. Most of the docents will then be ready to answer questions. Sometimes you get someone who goes above and beyond, giving all the most interesting background to anyone receptive, unprompted. Museums need these people.

Good guides, docents, etc can make all the difference for a museum. Most do the job well enough, but a rare few turn an interesting visit into something special.

American “Cancel culture” has a history older than the nation. The charge gets lobbed at the left, but in modern times it has been practiced non-stop by the right.

US inflation was lower than most of the rest of the world at the time. I feel like the Biden administration did a decent job on that.

Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle have received a great deal of attention, but his other stories are often even better. I’ve wondered why no one has adapted more of them for the screen. Would make an excellent anthology series.

Virtually every celebrity death gets a lot of attention on social media. I’ve seen three that were truly huge. The first two were Bowie and Prince. The outpouring for Dolly looks to dwarf them.

Thanks for the info. The question remains, but Adams is presumably absolved. I know I heard of the city’s rat problem long before the Adams administration. The question is not extremely useful, but it’s worth remembering the city officials who did not take effective measures.

I’ve spent less than 72 hours in NYC, so I’ll not pretend to have any knowledge of the problem beyond what has commonly been reported. This does raise a question, though. If it was so seemingly easy, why wasn’t it done before?
