Something all the new SH’s have done is focus more on exploring the outdoor town spaces. That was something I felt the originals started to stray from after the original and the past 3 years have proven its value.

Mostly enjoying but the stealth is extremely stressful for me. I just failed a sequence three times then Rambo’d it expecting to die, used several bullets an IV and two bricks only to find out my initial run was correct, and I finished, but the door prompt didn’t appear.

Can someone explain this misconception to me? This clickbait infuriates me but it’s a very common view that XBox established this and Nintendo scrambled it - when SNES had this ABXY layout in 1990. What gives?

As this predates the dark times, I maintain it is a great episode. The Mr Smith remake is great and I still give the advice, “Did Braveheart run away? Did PAYBACK run away?” to people who have no earthly idea wtf I’m saying

But on its 40th birthday I can say it would be difficult to quantify the effect Castlevania has had on my life and career. If you include it inspiring Ninja Gaiden, impossible. If you include its role in the Metroidvania genre, no such instrument could ever exist. I put its music in Contra ffs

What I imagined was - impossibly - very similar to Simon’s Quest, long before that game existed. They did not tell me the name of the game but when my friend John Paul got Castlevania, I knew this was it. I have so many little anecdotes for every game in the series…

I remember the first time I became aware of Castlevania. Two classmates were discussing how far they’d gotten. “I beat the mummies” “I got to Frankenstein but he killed me.” “My brother got to the wolfman.” “…there’s a wolfman??” I tried to imagine this crazy game that had so many monsters.

My early impressions of Townfall upon reaching chapter 2 - This really is the “Evolved SHSM” I hoped it would be. They’ve planned the SH comeback perfectly I couldn’t be more pleased. Also I can’t handle this stress.
