The 197th academy is one of the worst performing academies in OPD history. Starting w/42 trainees, its now lost more than half and will finish around the same number as academies that began with 25-28 recruits. 8 were recycled into the 198th academy already, inflating those stats

Tomorrow at 10am, the Oakland Arms Embargo Coalition will have a protest at the Fedex Facility at 9190 Edes Ave. Fedex is the cargo provider using the Oakland airport to transport Israeli weapons parts used in Israel's genocidal war against Palestinians

To be clear, like most of Houston's statements, claims and actions dealing with the Police Commission, his reason for opposing her has little to do with any valid reasoning.

After all this, Quan then gifted the police 82 new and far more expensive SUV squad cars, calling it a "gift from the city to the Oakland Police Department to thank them for their good work this year.”

This is going to be a big mess. Houston is actively campaigning against Quan, but many on the Left will find it distasteful because she was the mayor during one of the biggest series of police riots of the last 20 years in which at least two protesters were nearly murdered.

There is no other reason to choose the cutoff of 2017 except that's when the city's unions won cost of living increases after nearly five years of doing without. And because it would be clear OPOA's raises over ten years dwarf civilian unions
040
Jaime Omar Yassin [TNH] @hyphyrepublic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Blatantly dishonest. available OPOA contracts go back to 2014, & OPOA got a raise every year. Oakland Report chose 2017, because this is where the city was forced to begin to catch up civilian wage. OPOA had 11.5% increases between 15 and 17. Just incredible flagrant dishonesty.

Jaime Omar Yassin [TNH] @hyphyrepublic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Oakland Report's absurd level of bias...the OPOA contract will add nearly 100 MM to the City's budget expenses all by itself by year 5. But they did little to report or warn people about it ahead of time. You can guess why, and most people who've read it even once already have.
072
Jaime Omar Yassin [TNH] @hyphyrepublic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I will say that the Lee admin has no talking points about this because media have ignored it despite it being key to understanding the full ramifications of the OPOA contract. Lee is on the backfoot on the entire convo and has no rationales for stalling on giving employees contracts

Awkward moments tomorrow for Mayor Lee, but it's to be expected when you ghost the entire workforce on contract negotiations. IFPTE and SEIU will hold informational pickets in front of city hall tomorrow, with the potential strike looming every day she fails to deliver.

The legislation is based on state law which provides the basics. It might be poorly conceived to begin with; and Wang spent little time thinking about how the program would be implemented, and was not honest with supporters about how effective it would be

Wang now has a real reputation for pushing things that sound good but are not implementable. The sex traffic ordinance has failed to produce one fine; rerouting traffic from the Blade is a month past due; Flock contract was never signed so her duplicative amendments aren't in effect.
