excuse me no there were not 6 death stars. There were two and the second one was fake, a trap intended to lure the rebel fleet. The only way the star wars universe makes sense is if death stars are so hard to build that it is kind of one and done

I see this take on progressive era thinking a lot and I don't think it is quite right. It's not that there was a "loss" of competition, it's that economic sciences had only recently formulated a theory that monopolies were actually bad, and this was still making its way into policy ideas

here's an example of what I mean, none of this is actually cream cheese. Not even close

it annoys me the extent to which google's algorithm heavily favors when recipe people do this. I want the actual for-real recipe not some watered down "easy" version

This guy, I mean. And here's the thing, this is his left arm. He's right-handed, we can see his sword. Maybe his other side is flipped back like this too, we can't quite tell

I really like Catherine de Medici's tapestries for this because they're not people sitting for portraits, we see a lot of shoulder capes in action. It's a depiction I believe of the ballet she staged for the polish ambassadors. We see a few ways of wearing the cape, none of them are one-shoulder

Sir Reginald, Duke of Chutney @hyperplanes.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
You occasionally find these artful, asymmetric single-shoulder-slung depictions in some 16th century portraiture, but as best I can tell *only* there, most period depictions do not show people out and about with a cape over just one shoulder. And even here, there's no ropes or fasteners

Sir Reginald, Duke of Chutney @hyperplanes.bsky.social · 28/09/2026
In modern depictions on TV and whatnot, they're almost always depicted as being worn over just one shoulder. This style is been practically ubiquitous but as far as I can tell did not really become standard until the Victorians adopted it as their go-to costume for Shakespearean drama

this is a weirdly narrow headline for an issue that's affecting everyone about equally

ok trying to explain this to people. The red line is the post-tax-repeal supply curve of gas. It is a lot steeper than usual because of the war. The post-repeal gas price is almost the same as the pre-repeal price (inclusive of tax). That tiny yellow region is the potential benefit to consumers.

This is ohio's voter registration form. It looks like a lot of fields but actually the only substantive thing they ask for is your license OR social security number

I wove five of these towels. I gave one to my mom, three are going to the market, seven to the dwarf lords, nine to the kings of men, and the remaining one I am keeping for myself

or you can buy one of these candy stripe towels I just wove for $30. 100% unmercerized cotton, I guarantee it is more absorbent than any towel you can get at the store. And it's Canadian cotton, stick it to Trump

Constantine had a questionable deathbed conversion to Christianity so this claim is semantically null but on it's own terms I don't agree with the reasoning. He's sort of doing the "reject the null implies my favorite alternative" thing when actually there's a multiplicity of possible alternatives

counterfactual thinking is important but also I don't think this particular way of thinking about counterfactuals can survive the observation that some things are multi-causal.

These were some of the first yarns I spun after learning to spin, I finally got around to weaving it. The blue warp is 3-ply corriedale wool, 36 ends per inch, the pink weft is a blend of merino wool and silk, also 3 ply. It now needs to be wet finished, no idea how much it will shrink

trying to graph what has happened to politics, the green line is sort of normal left-right voter opinion distribution, the red line is what has happened in the past few years. The left is more fat tailed, and as a result the gap between their positions and "typical voter" has widened

I'm sorry but I've cooked enough banquets to know this is exactly backwards, almost everyone assumes the skin is inedible and will purposefully avoid eating it if you serve it (and if you notice, restaurants *never* serve it)

I continue to think that a key thing the inflation and vibecession discourse has missed is that the structural break in food prices wasn't the pandemic, the situation was already boiling at least a decade earlier

got tired of the prices and service at fast food restaurants so I bought a box of halal nuggets at the restaurant store and now I am the master. I am nugget capable. I am the morning and evening nugget, a servant of the secret nugget, weilder of the fry oil, heir to the holy nuggets of betazed

I didn't post at the time but the seafood banquet a couple weeks ago was also a success. Salmon, walleye, oysters in ice cider, cod blinis, mimosa salad, shrimp, paella followed by nesselroad cream, amber pudding, cakes, followed by a ball where we learned a minuet and duke of kent's waltz

I don't get why the police chase isn't made out to be a bigger deal. He wasn't going >140mph to get to the gym, he saw the police and tried to outrun them. Police chases are always extremely dangerous, this alone should get him a couple years in jail

That's what Fox is doing here. The audio admits that gas prices are higher now than a year ago, it is only the graphic that has the error. They obviously went to AAA and got 3.13, then changed the 3 to a 4 so it looks like a typo

suddenly realizing that the french royal coronation robes in all the portraits are not symmetrical with a front and back panel as they appear. It's actually a cloak that is worn asymmetrically, clasped at the right shoulder
