A Christmas Carol (1843) is one of our most enduring stories bc it rightly insists that to get wealthy ppl to do the right thing, we gotta scare the shit outta them first

As sure as the sun rises in the east and God made little green apples, anyone who describes themself as unapologetically something or other should start apologizing immediately and never stop.

Happy Easter, courtesy of the wonderful Don Hertzfeldt.
Three figures in a landscape, with words, "It is Easter and children have begun to dress in kelp, in hopes of attracting the Easter Eel."
Distant speck in rolling landscape, with the words, "The Easter Eel hides leathery egg sacs filled with chocolate across the land."
Large, sharp-toothed, goggly-eyed creature leans in from right of image, gobbling up the right-most of the three figures. The remaining two, draped in kelp, smiling, exclaim, "Oh god, oh god here comes the Easter Eel".

First day in new job, putting personal effects around desk, including this Edward Gorey picture. Two of my immediate colleagues recognise it as a Gorey and express their admiration for Gashlycrumb Tinies. I think I'm in good company.
Edward Gorey illustration with the caption "A Future Unremembered Poet of the Seventeenth Century accepts a Christmas cookie from the Great Veiled Bear".
The white bear is on ice with ice skates on, handing a biscuit from a tray laden with biscuits to a young boy. The boy is dressed for winter and accepting the biscuit, while standing on elevated snowy ground.
