When OpenAI announces they're halving the usage on your 20x plan on the same day that bond yields hit their 20 year high

Some more lip rigging work, using the ribbon approach from Rik Schutte's course on Blender Studio.

I cancelled my Anthropic sub over this, so looks like it's time to reconsider my OpenAI sub too.

Sales from the Holotype website are starting to trickle in, which is great to see. Advantage is I only pay Stripe fees, no commission Gumroad takes 10% (with a caveat), Superhive is 30% BEFORE merchant fee & Blender fund contribution which is...a lot.

He actually tried it - very difficult task for both models apparently.

I came across TopoRig today (a paper/repository for facial rig prediction), and took their implementation for a spin via the HuggingFace space. It's no easy task! The eyes/lips are almost always the problem, a single misplaced vertex visibly wrecks the whole result.

OK maybe there's still a reason to keep my Twitter account:

Just made another sale by way of Bing! I don't get too many of these, but I see it pop up regularly enough, it's definitely not a dead channel.

This time I asked it to replicate the image on the right. If I saw this 3 months ago, I'd be amazed. Problem is, Astra has raised the bar for 3D modelling (at least, from what I've seen - I haven't actually tried myself).

Just got an email from Xiaomi inviting me to join the MiMo Desktop beta, and confirming there are two new models on the way:

“we cannot rule out that de-identified data derived from their usage of our products helped improve our models.” It should be easy to check if Tristan’s conversations were ingested as training data. The fact that they’re not screaming that it wasn’t probably tells you everything you need to know.

Whenever OpenAI put a usage reset on the table, I ask Codex to run wild and implement its own choice of shaders before the reset hits. This is from this morning:

My experience with Astra so far is that it's a definite step up from Sol (particularly for vision & 3D tasks), and it's really great at finding bugs in large codebases, but it still regularly makes some truly bizarre coding choices like this:

A lot of fuss about DLSS 5 at the moment; my 2c is that most just...don't look good. I can instantly see the tell-tale high-contrast/exposure you see in image generation models, like someone slapped flux/ZIT on top of an in-game render.

Facebook Research also has a recent(ish) parametric human model. I did come across it a few months ago, but it was described as a "full-body model" so it didn't click immediately that it also includes face identity/expression too:

Interestingly, I just had Codex give me a summary (possibly from compaction) in Chinese. A few possible reasons come to mind, but the most plausible is that I had switched my keyboard to Chinese input while working on something in Figma, which triggered some kind of event listener for codex CLI

I've been working on a new Blender rigging add-on for a couple of months now, and it's almost ready for release! The fixed eye-gaze is working pretty well, though that's one of the simpler parts to implement.

I asked Codex to generate some random game shaders, it was free to choose. Some of them turned out decent-ish - I think they'd be quite usable with some cleanup and an artistic eye?

Fun fact - my first shot at designing & selling my own product was a legal review add-on for Word in 2017 or so (this was all word2vec/fastText/embedding). It's been clear to me for 10+ years that this is where things would end up.
