Still terrace weather and clear skies. About 6 degrees too warm. It is 21 °C, should be 15 °C (59 °F) and misty.

Volga river basin. Stream captures abound.
An elevation and hydrological map of the Volga River Basin, highlighted in vivid color against a dark grayscale background of the surrounding topography.
The main drainage basin is outlined with a thin black boundary, filled with detailed green, white and brown terrain shaders indicating varying elevations across the basin. The main branch and tributaries of the Volga River carve through the center of the landmass, draining southwards into a sharply defined, bright blue depiction of the northern Caspian Sea at the bottom of the frame. A small watermark reading "HydrologyNL" is located in the bottom-right corner.

I mapped this almost two years ago. It is remarkable.
A digital elevation model (DEM) map shows a braided river valley winding through a green terrain flanked by a rugged hill range on the left.
The image details include:
• The river system: a dark blue braided river with multiple interwoven channels flows from the top-left toward the bottom-right. The river's wider, historical floodplain or valley floor is shaded in a lighter blue tint.
• The hills: the left edge features sharp, highly textured ridges and valleys depicted with tan, white and orange-brown relief shading, indicating elevation.
• The surrounding terrain: the rest of the landscape is a flat to rolling plain rendered in shades of bright and dark green.
• In the upper-right quadrant, a circular, dark blue crater lake sits inside what looks like a volcanic cone(?). A smaller, irregularly shaped dark body of water is visible further down the right edge.
• Watermark: a small blue box in the bottom-right corner reads "HydrologyNL".

In the series 'things we have to tolerate from the government'.
Terrible map, provided by the Netherlands' government (Rijkswaterstaat) and 3-4 major Dutch research institutions.

This just happened. 👇
A picturesque sunset view of the Montelbaanstoren, a historic 16th-century tower located along a canal in Amsterdam. The Zuiderkerkstoren in the distance.
The tower stands tall on the right side of the frame, illuminated by warm lights that cast bright orange and golden reflections onto the rippling water below. In the foreground on the left, a traditional sailboat is docked, its tall mast adorned with a string of glowing fairy lights that stretch upward against the darkening sky. The background shows the silhouettes of classic Amsterdam canal houses and distant city lights under a gradient sky shifting from deep blue at the top to a warm orange glow near the horizon. Cracks in the US of A after an impact from extraterrestrial space. 👇
A high-resolution digital elevation map showing a vast, desert-like landscape in shades of beige and light brown. On the right side of the image, a large, well-defined circular impact crater stands out, featuring steep, shadow-cast inner walls and a dark green floor. To the left, a long, deeply carved, winding canyon river system cuts vertically through the terrain with prominent shadows, resembling a jagged lightning bolt or deep crack in the earth. The bottom-right corner includes a small watermark that reads "HydrologyNL".

Glacial degradation in Switzerland reached an unprecedented threshold this summer with the formation of a supraglacial lake near the Allalinhorn summit (4,027 m). Cryospheric data since 2000 highlights the acceleration: 📉 -5% ice volume in 1 year 📉 -20% in 5 years 📉 -43% total loss since 2000

There was some movement noticeable in radar images, it appears. However: - there was movement at many places in the Himalayas (duh) - not enough to trigger any alarm. Reason that I say that this would not have been forecasted with whatever monitoring system one might want to put in place.

Parabolic sand dune formed during the last cold period of the Weichselian ice age (the Late Pleniglacial and Late Glacial). Excess sand caused the river Amer to silt up, creating fords. Hence the name Amersfoort. Location: maps.app.goo.gl/qnF6G3WXDN79...
An elevation model map of a city in the Netherlands (Amersfoort) showing distinct height differences through color gradients.
Waterways and low-lying ground appear in deep black, carving prominent intersecting lines and a large knot-like junction across the right side of the frame.
Higher elevations are rendered in shades of light gray and pale green.
Lower topography on the left and bottom right are highlighted in vibrant, textured greens.
Higher terrain and elevated structures are marked by warm orange and rust tones scattered throughout the urban grid.
A small blue logo reading "HydrologyNL" is located in the bottom right corner.
It shows a brown U-shaped dune.

Romania's Oltenian Sahara is an example of anthropogenic desertification. Drainage of lakes and clearing forests since the 1960s has left >100k hectares degraded. The sand expands by 1,000 ha/year, prompting a massive 18,000 ha reforestation initiative.
A detailed digital elevation model (DEM) map capturing the Danube River winding through the diverse topography of southeastern Romania.
The image uses a vibrant color gradient to signify varying elevations, with higher, mountainous terrains in the top and bottom left corners rendered in warm shades of light brown, orange and yellow. These areas transition down into undulating plateaus and lower plains shown in cooler shades of light greenish blue and blue.
Cutting horizontally across the lower third of the landscape is the Danube River, depicted as a stark white, braided ribbon flowing from the left toward the right. The river moves through a wide, deep blue flood plain, emphasizing its lower elevation compared to the surrounding dramatic bluffs and terraced river valleys. In the bottom right corner, a small dark blue rectangle contains the white text "HydrologyNL".

The climate crisis accelerates every minute, and yet media coverage is declining. Many newsrooms lack the time and financial resources to dig deeper. Lunchtime climate briefings offer journalists a shortcut to high-level experts and to the most important stories to be told. tally.so/r/EkY0dL

A remarkable basin. What are the two hills on top (N)?
An elevation map showcasing a distinct river basin or watershed highlighted in vibrant colors against a grayscale terrain background.
The Highlighted Basin: Located in the center, this specific drainage basin is sharply defined. It uses a topographic color ramp where higher elevations (mountain ridges and peaks) are shown in deep red and orange tones along the upper and left borders, transitioning down to light green and dark green in the lowest valley floors and main river outlets on the right. The intricate, branching network of ridges and stream channels is highly visible.
The Background: The surrounding landscape is depicted in high-contrast black, gray and white, highlighting a dense, fractal-like pattern of steep valleys and ridges that contrast starkly with the colored basin.
Watermark: The text "HydrologyNL" is printed in white in the bottom-right corner.
