Had the opportunity to play some MTG last night. Instead of the usual EDH and PDH shenanigans, we played some old ol' fashioned, 1v1 kitchen-table Magic. I'm not going to give a breakdown of each game, since it isn't necessary, but I do want to gush a bit about 1v1 MTG.

I've been watching Dragon Ball Z Kai with my kids. I am a fan of the franchise overall, but admittedly I never watched all of the original run. By the time the original was in the Buu saga, I kind of lost interest. Now that I am watching the Buu Saga? Whew, this isn't fun. I'm tired.

I decided to try out the Final Fantasy Resonance demo. I'm a general fan of Final Fantasy. While I enjoy some of the newer games, I always did want to an FF game to play like the older entries. The demo allows us to play the first Chapter of the game with minimal restrictions.

Well, here's the first draft of my Ravenous Squirrel PDH deck. Mono-green spellslinger that barely uses instant or sorcery cards. Might still need to make adjustments, particularly with ramp, but it sure is cool just drawing cards.

Spent some free time figuring out my PDH decks. So far, I've picked out card swaps for Bloodsky Berserker, Bard the Bowman, and Walker of the Wastes. I'm not 100% convinced the card swaps are the best ones to make, but I'm hopeful they'll have a positive impact.

I know I don't share much about my personal life on here, but I'm a cat owner! Prior to this weekend, I had three cats: Mya (all gray), Gaige (tabby calico), and Ripley (all black). Mya was out eldest cat at the age of 16, and she passed away Saturday morning.

Been picking out cards for Sludge Strider PDH. It seems like a fun deck to pilot, but maybe too open ended? Getting a lot of decision paralysis with cards. I am in the process of taking apart my Voidwing Hybrid PDH deck. I like Poison as a mechanic, but I built this deck incorrectly. I tried going for a control strategy when I should've built it aggro. So instead, I'm salvaging what I can and building Ichor Rats.

One of my favorite things about building decks in MTG is taking them apart to build new decks. I took apart 6 decks last night (4 PDH, 1 EDH, 1 Modern). I ended up going through my bulk and selling off about 100+ cards. This should give me enough to potentially build 2 new EDH decks.

Alright, trying to find an adequate replacement for Monk of the Open Hand. What I'm trying to do: - Make the commander bigger through permanent buffs. - Draw a bunch of cards. - Commander should be low MV (ideally 1). - Should be Red. Tall ask, but I have a few options on my radar.

I picked up Sifu on PS5. It was a game I wanted to play earlier but I never agreed with the price tag, even when on sale. But a martial arts roguelike seemed up my alley. It was finally at $10 so it was worth my purchasing. Well, bad news: I don't dig it.

After reviewing the cards currently in the deck, I got the new cards picked out. I'm ditching the "cantrip" artifacts and adding more cards at 3-5MV, most of them creatures, balancing out the deck more. Now there is a 50/50 split of creatures and artifacts. Can't wait to see the changes in action!

PDH Deck Analysis (so far): 1) Ruin Crab has been dismantled. I like milling but the deck only functions to annoy without doing much else. I thought about pivoting to "big creatures" but that would make it too redundant with my Jalira deck. Best to dismantle and use the cards in other decks.

Reviewing my notes from the MTG games last night. Some additional thoughts: The player running Mm'menon expressed dislike for the deck. They don't mind playing UR Artifacts, but they aren't seeing the results they want. Their commander is too vulnerable to removal, and they can't rebuild.

I had the opportunity to play some PDH last night with some fellow Pauper people in the Jalapeno Paupers community. I am usually nervous about playing with people I haven't gotten to know first since I'm not looking to make anyone have a bad time. But, the game was really good!
