Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 26/08/2026When it comes to 80 year olds this week, fate’s aim is off. Stop nailing the good ones. 000
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 06/07/2026Engineering using LLMs is engineering via loot boxes. You have timers gating your work, which you can pay real money to evade. There is the addictive nature of “one more try and this time it will work for sure”. It’s freemium engineering. 000

Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 26/02/2026The shift to agent-based software development is the shift from craftsmanship to process engineering. It’s the difference between a carefully crafted piece of viennoiserie and a croissant shaped object. Both will nourish you, but only one will demonstrate mastery of a craft. 010
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 27/01/2026Movie marquees make some unintentionally intriguing movies. “Hamnet The Choral Secret Agent” sounds much more interesting than most movies made today. 010
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 13/01/2026Observing Amazon delivery drivers navigate a city, I have come to the conclusion that delivery should be left to the professionals. At least once I saw a driver circle a block, not because they were lost, but because they had two stops separated by a house. The less said about their parking […]hachyderm.ioOriginal post on hachyderm.io 000
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 09/11/2025I had an amusing experience using an LLM agent in an IDE to attempt to accomplish a task: I asked it to delete all lines in a file containing a particular string. It spent a large amount of time trying to derive an understanding of regex syntax from first principles and failing. Repeatedly […]hachyderm.ioOriginal post on hachyderm.io 000
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 20/10/2025Overhearing high schoolers talking on the bus about generative AI: “It gives you your ideas” That’s not how this works. 000
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 19/09/2025One upshot of the rise of LLMs in software engineering: all those people who earned English Literature or History degrees, and heard about how they were worthless, may exact a small measure of revenge. Prompting LLMs involves telling them a story (e.g. “You are a senior software engineer, and […]hachyderm.ioOriginal post on hachyderm.io 000

Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 20/05/2025I swear that the hit testing in the Apple News Sudoku is deliberately broken. Many times I tap a square, only to have an adjacent one selected. If there are any Apple employees reading this, please fix this. It’s obnoxious and really ruins the enjoyment of that set of puzzles. 000
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 10/05/2025I can’t tell if you should get fries with this or it’ll drop some sick beats. Either way, it’s ISO compliant… 000
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 04/03/2025As an American, I am ashamed of my government. I apologize for the heads of state who need to lavish praise upon the petulant, transactional, man-child sitting in the Oval Office, lest they attract his ire. 000
Eric Hustvedt @hustvedt.hachyderm.io.ap.brid.gy · 23/12/2024First really cold temperatures with only heat pumps providing heating. Outside temps of ~-7C and the pumps had no problem keeping the interior at 19-20C. I did switch our heat pump water heater to hybrid mode, since the unfinished basement only has so much latent heat to give. #heatpump 020
