I knit tiny nonsense. There's also likely to be a fair bit of swearing.

Found this on the side of the road. Almost left it, but then saw that the top opened. So of course I brought it home, cleaned it up, oiled it, and replaced the knobs. And now it (briefly) looks like this. Its real use for me will be as a plant stand, but we needed the rainbow thread pic!

Series of thoughts, more or less in order: 1: Ohhhh, pretty! 2: God fucking dammit...oh wait, there's another one on the other side...do I even actually know how to knit? 3: Hold on, I can fix it... 4: I shall now be smugly satisfied that at least my mistakes teach me to be good at fixing things.
Lovely little brioche hat...with a sneaky errorzoomed in version of the previous pic with the error circled to draw attention to itin progress pic of the other error i noticed being fixed (because apparently i was too cranky while fixing the first one to take a pic of it, but did manage to take a pic while fixing the second one)After the fix, not yet blocked, but once it is, the error will all but disappear!

If you are able to avoid the news and make something today, I highly recommend it. You don't have to watch the absolute travesty taking place. It will still happen whether you watch or not, and watching it will probably hurt, so you're allowed to care for yourself instead.

It's one giant piece of paper folded up to make several pockets. The idea is that I'll hang it on the wall and fill the pockets with things that bring me joy.

My country is inaugurating a fascist rapist today. Again. Instead of a competent woman. Again. And that's doing a number on my brain, so I'm going to spend the day working on the next iteration of this.
Photo of a wall hanging made from one giant sheet of white paper, folded up into several rows of pockets, with various bits of pretty papers tucked in the pockets. It's laying on my dining room table and you can see my bookcases in the background. The other pictures in the thread are more pictures of the same thing from other angles.

Libraries are so damn cool! My local library is doing a four week embroidery class, and it's been so fun. First two weeks turned out this, and you can totally come join for the next two weeks if you're so inclined! 🧶 www.librarycamden.org/event/healin...
Photo of embroidery. The embroidery is on gray felt using pink, yellow, and white silk embroidery thread. The design is a circle with the same design repeated on eight points to make sort of a snowflake/kaleidoscope/round stained glass window sort of vibe.

I am currently experiencing the Discworld books for the first time and finding them absolutely astonishing. I'm binging the audiobooks from the library and they are wonderful. I wasn't ready for them earlier, but damn do they hit hard right now.

I thought I was done knitting urchins. I really did. But then you see I found myself somewhere that sold beads. And I was quickly overcome. As so often happens. So now there must be at least a few more urchins. I'm sure you understand. 🧶

Remember those pinchy pinch purses your grandma had in her bag? The ones where you pretended they were monster mouths when you opened them? How about a knitted version? Going 'chomp chomp chomp' is optional, but encouraged! 🧶 rav: www.ravelry.com/patterns/lib... payhip: payhip.com/b/plj4H

P.S. It doesn't matter what size the buttons are! I'm sewing the button band shut (because four buttons do not hold a form fitting sweater nicely closed over the topography of my body), so the buttons will just be for show, not to actually use.

I have successfully done a bookshelf purge. I have 3 tall bookcases in the dining room, and between them I was able to locate 20 books that are ready to go live happier lives somewhere else. This, plus a little rearranging, led to the creation of One Empty Shelf, which I shall fill with plants.
Photo of the 20 books destined for the used book store. I am intentionally only showing the bottoms of the books because I don't want anybody to see their book in that pile and have a bad feeling, so please no one ask for the titles of the books.

All of this. Plus amazon's new return policy is traaaaash. I have to take anything I want to return to Staples, which is more than an hour of driving for me. They require this even if the item is damaged/defective. They charge for other options. This policy has cut my orders by at least 75%.

Why on earth would anyone want their spouse to risk long term, serious illness? If you stop taking precautions, it's not 'if you get covid' it's 'how many times do you get covid.' And there's absolutely nothing to suggest that it doesn't just keep doing more and more damage as you keep getting it.

Do everything you can to fight this. If it hasn’t hurt you or someone you love yet, it will if we don’t stop it. I shout about it Every Month (and remind folks they can get abortion pills now, no matter where they live, even if they're not pregnant, in case they need them later).

This is only going to get worse. Other states are considering similar fetal personhood questions, and they’re all based in attempts to limit access to abortion. Everyone deserves bodily autonomy, and any attempt to limit it hurts us all.

So now it’s unclear what happens when those embryos die or to the embryos left over when someone is done with IVF. Several clinics have stopped IVF treatment, the rest are trying to figure out how they’re allowed to help people who want to get pregnant. Explanation of how this can affect IVF here:
npr.org
How Alabama's ruling that frozen embryos are 'children' could impact IVF
Frozen embryos are people and you can be held legally responsible if you destroy them, according to the Alabama Supreme Court. The decision could have wide-ranging implications for IVF clinics.

Hunter Hammersen @hunterhammersen.bsky.social · 27/02/2024
This matters because creating lots of embryos at once & freezing them until they’re needed is part of how IVF works, and about half the embryos created through IVF die (as do many embryos created the old fashioned way). There’s a good explanation of the general process of IVF here:

The science of IVF: What to know about Alabama's 'extrauterine children' ruling
Why are so many frozen embryos created? And how is the Alabama Supreme Court ruling likely to affect IVF in the future? Here's what you need to know.

Alabama’s Supreme Court just ruled that the frozen embryos used in IVF are “extrauterine children” and that the states wrongful death laws apply to “all unborn children, regardless of their location.” There’s a good explanation of the case here.

I've been doing this on the blog/patreon/instagram for a while, but I want to do it here too. Every month I do a post saying “abortions are good” and send a donation to AidAccess.org (where you can order abortion pills online, even if you live somewhere with a ban, even if you’re not pregnant).
Slide with the following text:

ABORTIONS ARE GOOD!

When abortion is restricted, EVERYONE suffers, even people who want to get pregnant!

Alabama just said frozen embryos used in IVF are "extrauterine children" & that the state's wrongful death laws apply to "all unborn
children, regardless of their location." As a result, IVF clinics in Alabama don't know if they're allowed to treat patients & some have stopped IVF treatments.

At the bottom is a note saying "EVERY MONTH I USE YOUR PATRON PLEDGES TO MAKE A DONATION TO HELP PAY FOR ABORTIONS. THANK YOU."

And below that is my logo, because by god I'm more than happy to put my name and my business behind what I say.
