It’s almost certainly possible to replicate this externally by reading into Doubutsu no Mori’s MPAK file and translating the relevant data into an existing GCI file on the GameCube. I might look into it in the future since it sounds like a fun project, albeit very niche.

This transfer service was an in-house tool that required physically mailing your N64 Controller Pak and GameCube memory card directly to Nintendo. I imagine they read the data from the Controller Pak and had some software to transfer your player information and inventory to your GameCube save file.

On the N64, there's an entire buffer of RAM called the osAppNMIBuffer that persists on reset. The original Doubutsu no Mori uses this buffer to have its debug state remembered whenever the game crashed or reset while testing. DnM+ tries to mimic this behavior by using the reset code on the GameCube.

I know it's been several months since I was active on YouTube and many people were asking how my family and I were doing. As such, I'd like to take this opportunity to provide a quick life update. Thank you all for your patience!

" I had previously announced in February that I would be returning to
regularly scheduled uploads. Over four months have passed since then,
and I'd like to apologize for the lack of any updates.

Things have been quite busy for me as I continue to care for my father,
who unfortunately suffered a major stroke seven months ago. Many
people have commented or emailed me asking how he is doing and
I'd like to thank you all for reaching out. I'm happy to report that he
has made significant progress with his speech. After many months of
struggling to speak, he can now say simple words and hold basic
conversations. It is very heartwarming to hear my father talk again.
Physically, he remains bedridden with limited mobility. He will continue
with longterm care at a nursing facility for the foreseeable future as
therapists work with him to help regain movement.

Outside of his condition, I remain solely responsible for his bills, finances,
insurance, house upkeep, and appointments. I won't go into too
much detail, but the past few months have been very draining as I
coordinate hospital visits, lawyer meetings, and handle finances.
As things finally settle with a longterm healthcare plan, I'm hoping
to find the time and motivation to create videos on a regular basis again.

I have some big plans for the channel that I'd like to bring to life this year,
so I hope you all look forward to future uploads. As always, thank you all
so much for the continued support.

Certain cheats enabled in Dolphin can cause this exact graphical issue, but it’s possible they can occur without them as well. I’ve never seen anyone have this issue on console, but I might be wrong.
