Entrepreneurship is like one of those carnival games where you throw darts or something. Middle class kids can afford one throw. Most miss. A few hit the target and get a small prize. A very few hit the center bullseye and get a bigger prize. Rags to riches! The American Dream lives on.
Rich kids can afford many throws. If they want to, they can try over and over and over again until they hit something and feel good about themselves. Some keep going until they hit the center bullseye, then they give speeches or write blog posts about "meritocracy" and the salutary effects of hard work. Poor kids aren't visiting the carnival. They're the ones working it.

I grew up hating being Southern. Our history is filled with hate and discrimination that still persists to this day. Dolly continually showed the world that didn't have to remain true, and that Southern hospitality was made for everyone and should be given freely. Rest in peace, queen

The last two lines of this May New York Times profile of Hayden Panettiere are so haunting. I always flinch when stories of addiction and recovery are narrativized and commodified as quickly as hers was. What a tragic story, with too many dirty hands. RIP.

Before we said goodbye, I asked Panettiere how she feels today, having relived her past triumphs and traumas, and put them on paper for the world to witness.

A multi-panel using the style and characters from Calvin & Hobbes, but with dialogue and art referencing the book "House of Leaves."

In the first panel, Susie Derkins approaches Calvin and asks "Hey Calvin, you want to play "House"?" but the word "house" is in blue text.

Second panel: Calvin respond "I don't know. How do you play?"

Third panel: From our POV we see a doorway, through a doorway, through which another doorway is visible, through which is visible another doorway... between rooms, Susie can be seen moving laterally.

Panel four: Susie is walking through a massive hallway. Other doors, turns are visible. She seems so small, as though the ceiling is several dozen feet above her, as though she has been reduced to a child's toy in a house.

Panel five: Calvin is in the dark, in his pajamas now, holding a flashlight which seems to have found a large hole in the floor.

Panel six: Calvin is running downstairs in the dark, a vague shadow in pursuit of him, as he yells "HELP HELP! IT'S AFTER ME!"

The "traditional" structure of TTRPGs puts an enormous amount of pressure on the GM to learn/refine & very little on the players. Which is somehow seen as more reasonable than spreading the load of learning/contribution across the whole table. Broader implications about community in there, y'all.
