A different take on this #WorldCoffeeDay highlights a beloved favourite of many, the Coffee Shop. A lug sail fishing vessel built in Sheringham, Norfolk but registered at Spurn Head in 1902. Sadly, the ship was broken up shortly afterwards in 1903. #Hull #Fishing #Spurnhead

We have recently completed the monumental task of cataloguing records of Compulsory Purchase by the Health Department. Comprising over 70 boxes, and 1,700 negatives. This collection will shortly be added to the public catalogue. #Hull @hulllibraries.bsky.social

#OTD 120 years ago Wilberforce House Museum opened to the public. After being used as a merchants office for many years the building was bought by the Corporation in 1903 and underwent extensive restorations before re-opening. #Hull #WilliamWilberforce @hulllibraries.bsky.social

We had an unexpected guest at the History Centre yesterday. A Gloster Canary, obviously keen to do some family history popped by to say hello. He was well looked after by the staff and was later re-united with it's owner. #Hull #glostercanary

#OTD in 1943, Hull’s Municipal Museum was destroyed by a bombing raid that started around 2:30am. Firemen arrived but with no water supply from the pipes collections of valuable exhibits were lost. Only stone pillars and walls left standing. #Hull #HulBlitz

Yesterday in 1803 George Wallis #Hull gunmaker and antiquarian died, age 71. He set up the towns first museum in the 1780s at 20 Mytongate, where he charged 1 shilling for entry. Housing all manner of arms and armour, his collection was sold in lots in 1834. #Gunsmiths @hulllibraries.bsky.social

Yesterday in 1861 the US Civil War began. William Shelton, alias Stapleton, joined the 11 Massachusetts Infantry (Union) in the last year of the war. He died in #Hull almost 60 years later in 1922 and lived on Clough Road. His military grave was erected in 1930. @ACWMuseum @Boston_Archives

To celebrate @WorldPoetryDay we look at Rev. Thomas Browne. Educated at Hull Grammar, later editor of the Advertiser, he wrote many poems in the Yorkshire dialect. His posthumous work, Poems on Several Occasions was published in 1800. @YDialect #poetry #Hull
