Welcome to Auction Action, where we'll look back at the online auctions for Tigers apparel that caught our eye in September, showcasing them in one place. (writes Mike Carter) The auction section of the Tiger Leisure website is becoming a regular source of intrigue here at HCK, and there were multiple items available last month... Just days before his loan move to Birmingham City, Canadian winger Liam Millar came off the bench at the Ricoh Arena to net the winner against Coventry City to put the Tigers two from two.

Having referenced the 1970s with the primary kit, and the late 1980s with the change, the Tigers have dug even deeper into the past for the third kit as they mine the club’s sartorial heritage to good effect. It is the mid 1930s that provides the inspiration for the third, completing the outfield set by using the aesthetics of a 91 year old ‘home’ kit to provide an alternative to the amber, black and white elements of the first two kits launched for use on our travels.

“WE ALL FOLLOW A YELLOW AND BLUE TEAM” (Click on the amber text in this article to see more photographs) The commercial imperatives of the modern game lead to teams having three distinct outfield kits a season, and if they think they can get away with it they might chance a fourth. Take Hull City fans have become used to seeing third kits in action, the 2014-2023 deal with Umbro insisted on third kits, many of which were highly sought after, such as the 2017/18 ‘Navy Peony’ kit.

Two months to the day of the Play-off Final and the end of the Kappa era, Hull City went two kits into the age of Oxen with the launch of the 2026/27 change kit, which honours our past while taking us headlong into a Premier League future. The shirt is a tasteful homage to Matchwinner’s popular 1988-90 away, replicating features such as a centrally placed crest, supplier logos on the sleeves and black and amber bars running from the neck to the set-in sleeves on a white field.

A month on from the Tigers win at Wembley, our attention has turned back to online auctions and digital marketplaces in the search of Hull City paraphernalia! (writes Mike Carter...) Starting with player shirts... there had been a Martin Samuelsen 2020/21 third shirt by Umbro on Vinted for quite some time. It was initially listed for higher than its final list price of £55, and likely sold for an offer lower than that.

Following hot on the heels of the home kit (Friday) and the away kit (Saturday), Easington United unveiled their 2026/27 third kit, or alternate, on the Sabbath, and it is a holy garment indeed! The Eastenders recently signed a kit deal with Devon based VX3 (which refers to the phrase attributed to Julius Ceasar, “Veni, vidi, vici”) to supply them in their 80th year.

The last three brands seen on City match kits have been Kappa, Umbro and adidas, all internationally recognised football kit suppliers. It's understandable, then, that the announcement of Oxen as our new manufacturer will be underwhelming for many, and some may be actively disdainful of the deal. I'm decidedly open minded about the move, in fact I see this is an intriguing opportunity.

May 2026, it's a month that will live long in the memory of Hull City supporters. It started with a numbing hangover feeling from a loss at Charlton, picked up considerably with fine wins over Norwich on the last day and at Millwall in the Play-Offs, and ended with the Tigers being promoted to the Premier League for the 2026/27 season via a glorious day at Wembley, as a group of players unlocked legendary status and celebrated hard with the fans.

Some thoughts on the most notable sartorial, graphical and material phenomena of City's third Championship Play-Off final, from the build-up to the emotional orgasm that was the promotion parade at Queen Victoria Square a fortnight ago... In an age of teams flying even for relatively nearby games, there was something old-skool cool about the squad travelling to London from Paragon Station with Hull Trains.

Not far from the MKM Stadium, you may have walked or driven past this place many times, not knowing what they do. Come join me vicariously… “Who are GK Beaulah?” you may ask? So rarely in the life of a lower league football club do significant moments arise of genuine global proportions. Perhaps the current crop of post-Premier League Tiger Nationals have lost sight of what a remarkable achievement it can be, to briefly best a genuine world class footballing side. In 1989 the Tigers, an established second tier side thanks to the calm administrations of manager Brian Horton but now piloted by dour Leeds-type Eddie Gray, reached the Fifth Round of the FA Cup after solid wins at Cardiff and Bradford and drew a plum tie at home to 80s global phenomenon Liverpool.

By it's very nature, the act of reviewing stuff month by month means there's always a lag, but we've finally caught up with the rest of you ensconced in 2026! Is the first month of the year filled with fine memorabilia bounty, or are we all just too skint to be buying stuff for the collections? Let's look at the January's Auction Action (writes Mike Carter)

Hull City wore their away kit at Southampton on Saturday.  That's not a statement that seems particularly novel or newsworthy, only it wasn't expected that the full change kit as registered with the EFL would be worn in 2025/26. Let me explain, but in my own round the houses style...  City first used alternate amber shorts midway through the 2001/02 season after a debacle at Darlington, but over the years the alts became a familiar item in the kitset.

Just like that, the year 2025 has passed us by. Michael Bublé is back on ice and the January transfer window is open, but as always with Auction Action we’re stuck in the past! We still have a month’s worth of online auction sales to cover before we can join the rest of you in 2026... (writes Mike Carter) December was slim pickings relatively speaking, but we’ve still got some crackers to share with you.

November is the month of remembrance, when those who have died in the line of duty for the armed forces are memorialised, and since 2009 City have worn poppy appliques on shirts used close to Remembrance Day, with thiose shirts later auctioned to raise funds for the Royal British Legion. This year the Tigers wore be-poppied shirts for the visit of Portsmouth on Saturday, 8th November (writes Mike Carter @HKRS_Mike) …

The Stags Head Inn in Lelley was the venue last week for the launch of Richard Lusmore's new book 'Special Attraction', and Hull City Kits were there to hear Lusmore and guest Alan Fettis recount supporting/playing for City in the early 90s, and we had some matchworn shirts on display for added colour. A fine evening was had by an assemblage of Tiger Nationals old enough to have endured supporting City through the final years of the 20th century and psychologically battle scarred from the experience, with Absolute Radio 80s DJ and one-time Amber Nectar podcast host Matt Rudd mastering ceremonies.

32 years ago this past week, City played 18 minutes of a First Round FA Cup tie in a game that would not be concluded, stopped by the collapse of a wall that endangered supporters. (This article first appeared on the now defunct Amber Nectar site, video courtesy of TigerTube) Rarely recalled these days, precious little mention of it on the internet, an incident which might as well be described in Swahili for all the recognition that it would elicit from a good 90% of current City “regulars”.

October has been and gone, just like that. A month that ended with Halloween, has spooked us a little bit, as notable memorabilia offerings were quite limited during the tenth month. However, fear not, we're still here to bring you all the best sales from online auction sites! (writes Mike Carter) Things seem to be calming down on the Auction section of the Tiger Leisure website.

Don Robinson has passed, and a club’s fanbase mourns. The man is a real giant in Hull City’s history, almost anything good you can think of that happened in the 1980s can be traced back to him and his flair for showmanship. Larger than life long before he became involved in Hull City: the wrestling career, the rugby career, the ownership of zoos and aquariums, essentially inventing dental tourism, he was a forward thinker and a left-field thinker.

This month we have ten items to share with you; One of the rarer shirts that we’ve covered in a while is this ‘Tash Converters’ 'keeper jersey from 2012/13 by adidas. Ahead of the 'Movember' charity drive that encourages the sponsored growth of moustaches in November, Australian sponsor Cash Converters raised awareness of the mens cancers charity by amending their sponsor applique.

Wing-half Brian Bulless played his entire professional career with the Tigers, making 326 league appearances between 1953 to 1964. Injury robbed him of the chance to play beyond 31, so City showed their appreciation with a testimonial. City faced an 'All-Star XI' on Tuesday 27th April 1965, three days after the conclusion of the 1964/65 campaign. The Tigers all-amber 1964/65 kit was not well received by supporters, readers writing in to the Hull Daily Mail disparagingly called it the 'banana kit', saving specific ire for the 'custard coloured shorts', which led to the kit being retired after just one season.

August! The most hopeful month of the football year, when every fan thinks their side has has won the transfer window and H.M.S. Piss The League has set sail. Picking up new shirts spikes in August too, whether it's the brand new club replica, or going all in on a costly but oh so cool vintage shirt for opening day sartorial smoothness.

Oli McBurnie fell victim to a letterset malfunction in Tuesday's Carabao Cup tie at Wrexham, as his small c fell off the back of his shirt at some point of the game. Word round the campfire is the small c was from an older letterset batch, and the adhesive has degraded over time.

Not only did they have a player issues/worn 1988/89 away shirt by Matchwinner with #16…

Two weeks after the launch of the 2025/26 Primary shirt (which I rather like despite it being solid amber rather than stripes and featuring tiger stripes which I think we’re using too much and running the risk of being gimmicky and pastiche – Review here), Kappa and the Tigers have pulled the curtain back on the away shirt for the upcoming season, and my response can be summarised with… “OOOOOOOOOOOOFFF!”

The 2025/26 Primary shirt by Kappa was revealed just hours before it's on-pitch debut against İstanbulspor at the Turkish Football Federation's training base on Tuesday. After three consecutive seasons in traditional stripes, the latest entry into City's shirt pantheon is a fascinating mix of two other recurring styles; solid amber, and tiger stripe '92 throwback. Naturally, the most striking element is the sublimated tiger print, which is confined to the Raglan sleeves, but other details are worthy of note.

Welcome to the Auction Action for June 2025, where for the first time we have a new avenue to explore. The club revealed Hull City Auctions (as part of the Tiger Leisure site) on the 4th June, with item listings beginning the following day. The first 'batch' of items to be auctioned was the match-worn 120th anniversary shirts worn by the Tigers in arguably the home performance of the season, against Cardiff City on 28th September 2024.

Early in May the Tigers brought a pretty wretched season to a close witha 1-1 draw at Portsmouth, which thankfully proved enough to retain our Championship status. The rest of May has been about recalling better years, such as the events of the 24th of May 2008 and the 28th May 2016. But eBay never sleeps, and our gaze upon it's Hull City themed offerings is relentless.

April - the month of fools, chocolate eggs, showers and... shirts? On the pitch April saw the Tigers pick up a valuable points against Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry and Preston North End as they sought to avoid the drop into League One. What was on offer during the last full month of 2024/25? Mike Carter takes us through what went under the virtual hammer in the fourth month...

Somehow we are already a quarter of the way through 2025 - yeah, we don't know how that's happened either! The positive thing about another month being completed is that we have a host of new polyester sales to discuss! (Writes Mike Carter) Online sales of match-worn shirts have been few and far between this year, but we live in hope that this changes, soon!

February might be short on days, but was it short on available to buy Hull City memorabilia? NOPE! Mikey Carter describes the Auction Action... 'Holy grail' is a term that's been hideously overused in recent years by collectors of everything from trainers to programmes to autographed stickers and trading cards, which of course includes match-worn shirts, to the point where it now seems to mean 'the next thing I want to buy' rather than 'legendary item that almost never becomes available'.

Like manna from heaven, the 2021/22 third kit by Umbro has ‘dropped’. What do the HCK Kitgeeks make of it? @SombreEthyl: As much as I love the away shirt for embracing the black-out trend (and City don’t often dabble in kit trends historically), I love this third shirt so much more for reflecting a bit of City kit heritage, as it clearly takes cues from the 1995-97 away.

January always feels like a long month, but it is firmly in our rear-view mirror now, meaning we can cast our eyes over what City branded cotton and polyester goodness was available and sold under the virtual hammer in the first month of 2025... (writes Mike Carter) It wasn't until the eleventh hour that we had a player specification shirt to bring you, but noted collector and friend of HCK Andrew brought this one to our attention!

In our 120th year, the club have done some wonderful things to mark the club's anniversary, such as the limited run commemorative shirts and jackets which found favour with us. Additionally, there have been some more modest, but no less impactful triumphs of marketing and club history celebration, such as the 'blink and you'll miss it' launch and extremely limited run of themed beers produced in collaboration with estimable local brewers Atom.

2024 is in the history books now, but we still have a bit of business in that year left despite the calendar ticking over to 2025, as we review the most notable online sales of Tiger tat in December 2024 (writes Mike Carter)...  One of the biggest bargains of the year was had with a long sleeved 2008/09 home shirt by Umbro, featuring Dean Marney's surname on the back…

As soon as Hull City's retail arm Tiger Leisure signed a deal with the Matchwinner brand owner Fourex, and re-issued the 1990-92 home shirt in June, it was inevitable that the most iconic shirt Hull City have worn and Matchwinner have made would be similarly re-issued. We were teased in late November by a Matchwinner cagoule, launched at the same time as the Kappa blackout range.
