Unite votes to cut Labour funding by 40%. UNISON elects Andrea Egan as general secretary. The Greens soar past Labour in popularity amongst NEU members. We are witnessing historic shifts in the trade union movement.
Photo by Green Party Trade Union Group on March 12, 2026. May be an image of banner and text that says "Unite the UNION Unite votes to cut funding to Labour by 40%! Green Party Trade Union Group Statement Green Party TRADE UNION GROUP Promoted by the Green Party Trade Union Group (Green Party) a at PO Box 78066, London SE16 9GQ.".Green Party Trade Union Group Statement on Unite Affiliation Decision

The decision by Unite to cut its financial affiliation to the Labour Party reflects a deep and growing frustration among working people who feel abandoned by a party that was founded to represent them.

From the treatment of Birmingham bin workers to uncertainty facing energy workers and the ongoing undervaluing of public sector staff, Labour’s response to the challenges in 2026 facing working people is too often out of touch, managerial and disconnected from the reality of workers’ lives.

Trade unionists are right to demand better.Across the country, working people are facing a cost of living crisis, insecure work and a hollowed out industrial base. We need political leadership that stands clearly and unapologetically on the side of workers.

Workers also need a serious plan for the future of jobs and industry. The transition away from fossil fuels must not be used as an excuse to abandon workers. Instead, it must be a planned and properly funded just transition that guarantees new, secure unionised jobs and empowers workers, bringing pride and economic regeneration to communities.

That is why increasing numbers of trade unionists are looking to the Green Party. The Greens support the right to strike, strong collective bargaining, higher pay, secure work and a just transition that protects and empowers workers and communities.

The Green Party Trade Union Group stands in solidarity with workers organising for dignity, security and power in the workplace.

We would encourage all workers who want a political party that truly backs trade unionism to join the Green Party and the Green Party Trade Union Group to help build a stronger voice for workers in politics.

So many bad-faith attacks on Zack Polanski. His own partner works in palliative care! About a third of carers are migrants. Among other things, Labour has banned them from bringing their partners and kids here. Labour pretending to care about them is nauseating.

While I think most literate people can be insightful and articulate in text form, if given enough time to collect their thoughts, it is a rare talent to be able to do that verbally, in real time, while responding to interruptions, hostile jibes or pointed questions and STILL get your point across.

Yes it's the moral and truthful position, but even on cold-blooded electoralism, going for the pro/neutral on migration vote is *far* more sensible. Four(!) parties competing for the ~55% who say it's a most important issue to them. Greens under @zackpolanski.bsky.social the only party for the 45%

Starmer doesn't realise that the Tories could actually recover one day. Reform’s base is inherently unstable and right wing voters are shockingly forgiving. The left won’t forget. The Green Party under @zackpolanski.bsky.social is far more coherent and fully democratic. When Labour dies it’s dead.

Robbie @huckfling.bsky.social · 18/11/2025
I can’t believe we’re living through the deaths of *both* the major UK parties. If Starmer had stood on a progressive platform we would have had 3 Labour terms minimum, as Tories and Reform split the right for the first time. Instead he joined them on the crowded right. We’re not coming back.

This is a new low from a govt plumbing the depths of performative cruelty in hopes that the public won’t notice they have no answers to the real issues facing this country A sensible, humane govt would focus on safe routes to prevent people making dangerous small boat crossings

How Starmer started vs how it’s going now. Pointlessly disgusting. The left will never trust Labour again. It won’t win over people obsessed with migration, it only fuels Farage. Greens are soaring because people know @zackpolanski.bsky.social defends policies he *actually* believes in.

Okay, I can't let this one go. I live in Ireland, not the UK, but the use of this image by a supposedly socialist party is so stupid and offensive, I'm going to get stuck in. Let me explain to you why any experienced illustrator/designer could have stopped you making so many miserable mistakes. 1/
A post by Zarah Sultana of 'Your Party', that uses a generated image with the words 'Your Party, County Durham Launch', surrounded by nine simple, flat images of images in silhouette with single colour backgrounds, presumably intended to represent Durham, four of which are a man with a weirdly long pick-axe, one is a building, two are gantries of some kind – for a coal mine? – and one is some kind of floating lamp. I will expand on this in the thread.

Greens jump from third to first. This is why the pressure to vote tactically in FPTP is so utterly shit. LDs and Lab screech that you *have to* vote them or get reform. @zackpolanski.bsky.social was right when he said Starmer has no right to that line when he could run the next election under PR.
