In the CSHL Drosophila Neurobiology course, our students successfully performed NMJ recordings (Tingting Wang), voltage imaging (Cheng Huang), and patch-clamp recordings (Nara Muraro). Thanks also to Yimei, Ruibao, and Flor for their support! @cshlcourses.bsky.social @mariadelapax.bsky.social 🧪

Embryonic dopaminergic neuron activity sustains lifelong locomotion in Drosophila
Padmanabhan et al. show that embryo-born VNS dopaminergic neurons (DANs) control locomotion throughout development and adulthood in Drosophila. Remarkably, the function of these neurons is maintained ...

Drosophila folks! We just shared a new protocol for surgical preparation that enables long-term imaging in adult flies. It’s low-cost, simple, and highly repeatable. For demonstration, we show a 10-day voltage imaging and a 1-week population calcium imaging results. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Elements of Olfactory Intelligence in Drosophila
The ability to make the world of odorants intelligible is a key capability of the Drosophila olfactory system that we shall call olfactory intelligence. We argue that olfactory intelligence does not o...

This is our best in vivo AP propagation movie so far. Recorded at 1k Hz from the axonal branches of a fly CNS neuron, using voltage indicator pAce.
