At least there's still one tiebreaker game to go 😬

Again, the smart streets pilot should let me sit there and take photos of people driving in the bus lane with me being able to get them fined for it

That is a good point, guess it would be worth a study if it can be done with a track down otherwise

HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
God no not during peak, but they still use it regardless and it's a lot more convenient than going to California Ave

Ends of platforms aren't even with each other so you'd have to set it back way further than needed and it would have to be ada accessible which means elevators on the platforms that don't have enough room for that.

They use that to get into that mini engine maintenance yard thing

HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
At peak times yeah they do use it all because of the time it takes to do PTC turnarounds, the most amount of flexibility the better

HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Only issue is that it would now have to be an exterior structure since track 1 now takes up where the passage was

And that's what every single agency has done with new faregates, it can't be done overnight and you still have to work out the initial bugs.

HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I think that nyc (I would have to see this first hand) would have them tuned into working faster and being less frustrating to work with, I'm just saying when it makes it's way here that outside of installing the faregates that the maintenance of how they act doesn't fall to scope creep
110
HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
And we have seen what happens when they don't work well at all (new MARTA gates)
120
HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
True but we still can't have faregates that are infuriating to work with all the time for fare paying users
130
HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I mean Chicago needs high throughput with existing stations for peak times so the gates need to be responsive and fast unlike whatever BART has chosen that takes 3-5 business days to open

Depends on the operator and how gutsy they are

Within the next 2 blocks he starts playing music on his phone loudly and bragging that now because of the price of gas he can't drive into the loop so you know you're being an ass now you have to subject everyone else to that? 🤨

Here's an example, was on a Loop Link bus, guy comes on and taps his hand on the reader and says "boop" and let's himself on without paying the fare, bus driver yells at him multiple times to pay the fare and he deliberately doesn't listen to him so we keep going...

I'm quite tired of the notion that fare evasion somehow generates more direct economic benefit to everyone when it in fact scares users off of the system that are trying to actually use it for economic benefits.

Cubic was showing off those very same fare gates at apta and honestly I think they could work for us, just need to customize the shut time so piggybacking doesn't happen
170
HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
And honestly we should plaster the gates with advertisements for free/reduced fare cards and how to get them

They didn't have it deployed at all, probably will come further down the line in testing.

The wall, it folds down from the side then slides out, similar to what is on the octagons and the exact same setup as on the coradia bilevels that Metra is supposed to be getting

Today was the first day of APTA 2026 in Chicago and the main star of the show is the new Stadler FLIRT BEMU for Metra! They were offering walkthroughs of the two car unit and had a presentation for it!

Good news, we already did that but instead take the working one bus and replace it with "7 people"
7 people pushing trolleybus

Better than last night with 667 breaking down and 669 finally getting behind it to shove it to Crystal Lake Yard making the entire consist delayed by 2 hours. Oh yeah and 671 was right behind that as well the whole time.

Hate to be "erm akshully" but it's any road a transit lane with the exception being federal roads which don't matter to us atp because all the issues lie with the city streets for the most part anyways.

Hopefully next we can add tolls to the expressways, all the merrier to shift more people to Metra.

HSRGood @hsrgood.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
They look like the same seats that are in the VIA Ventures which were just okay, seemed fine for when I used them going from TRTO-OTTW, OTTW-MTRL, and MTRL-TRTO.

Again, divvy into the suburbs and using the Metra/Pace hubs as last mile solutions would be extremely worthwhile
