Finally, make sure your portfolio is authentic to who you are and the vibe you bring. Have a style that reflects your own and pepper in examples of what you like to write and your strengths. You can also include a little bit about your hobbies and things like that at the end.

General writing sample It's helpful to have a mix of writing samples to draw from that you can use that aren't just from games. Short stories, screenplays or other mediums like immersive theatre can all help show the scope of what you would bring to the role.

One producer at a publisher said they never have time to play a whole game so a link to a YouTube playthrough is always more important for them. Discord communities for jams can normally help you with this by offering to record a play through of someone else's game too

Make it easy Try and take any extra work that someone might have to do to get the information they want about your work away. I linked directly to my games and also linked to playthroughs of my games on YouTube. I'm lucky enough to have some streamer friends who played some of my early game jams.

Keep things brief Have your first page get straight to who you are and what's unique to your career experience. When you talk about your work, you don't need to go into loads of details just clear examples of what you did. See picture above for details.

Off to immediately be creative and inspired and let the rubbish flow. Then go and do something like a walk, listen to a podcast about something unrelated or writing adjacent. Play a game, go to an exhibition. Anything that allows my writing well that I draw from to refill and come at the problem

I try and work out if I'm feeling exhausted/overwhelmed/burnt out or if I'm feeling okay but the creative juices aren't flowing. If it's the first I need a break immediately if possible and if it's a team project talk to them about that. If it's the second it's about taking some of the pressure ->

I'm only a few hours into #expedition33 (just recruited Maelle) but the combat is soooo fun. I'm a sucker for turn based combat with skill trees anyway but fun dodge/parry windows?? Plus elemental combos and combat stances??? Very late to the party but enjoying it a lot #clairobscur

Also this?? Kishimoto writes these kids dealing with horribly grown up issues so well. A kid who is impervious to any physical injury but can't understand why everything inside hurts or even know what the absence of love is, having barely felt it themselves

Everyone knows Neji is better. But she still risks her life to prove to herself that she can also rise above the failure tag, even when it would have been easier to give up. There's something to be said for a character who is meek and quiet but has an inner grit to keep going when facing her fears

There's a few glaring misses, particularly the amount of times women are damsels in distress while our male characters get depth and whole arcs while saving the day. And it's a shame as rereading Hinata's fight, I like how she isn't openly badass and her teacher openly doubts her ability...

I've been rereading #naruto as a nostalgia hit and it slaps. Teen soldiers refusing to be emotionless tools of war and exploring what it means to be a failure. It introduced so many great characters and concepts but then just left their arcs behind quickly. Hinata being a great example...
