like it feels stereotypical to be a gym guy who doesn't like leg day but i just don't enjoy the really heavy lifts to get to the 8-12 rep failure. loading plates is annoying. also. i already inherited my father's rugby ass. so it's not the same as chasing cleavage or wingspan i don't yet have.

there are times where friction is intentional. it's fun to challenge the audience. it's fun to communicate an emotional beat with thoughts that come out scattered and wrong. however! that needs intention! otherwise you're just banging pots and pans together and making a song hard to remember.

the funny thing about language is that what survives is what is easiest to say with each repetition. songs are by nature repetitive things. so i personally believe the best song comes out when you've sung it a hundred times and you've let the best version of the idea shed its skin a few times.

personally i like to sing my demos doing chores, i loop them at the gym, i really try to live with them as much as possible. if i am frequently remembering a line incorrectly, i will usually incorporate the misremembered phrasing or change the line entirely. it's the clunker diagnostic process.

this happens weirdly often. the above example is my favorite. every time i remember this song i go, "you can't even look me in the eyeball" because when you are coupling with "rival" and you say "eye-" of course you're going to say eyeball. "eye, no" gets auto-completed over every single time.

unwarranted songwriting advice of the day: human brains like pattern filling. we have an auto-complete running at all times. avoid patterns that invoke a more common word or phrase. this is how misremembered or misheard lyrics often happen.
