"Being told that I couldn't do things because I was a girl was like a red rag to a bull." Raised by a single mother, Gaby Weiner has always been a feminist: in the Hornsey Housebound Housewives, in a school where women teachers couldn't wear trousers, and in her MA on the Sex Discrimination Act.

In the 1980s, Carole Lucas couldn't find other women to run with, so she started a club. Hackney Women Harriers grew from one jogging partnership into an affiliated club racing around the country and abroad, with pub nights, weekends away and friendships that last to this day.
