Land of Nowhere is a survival horror game set inside a sunken tower where a mysterious signal promises hope of survival. Destroy the bodies of concrete monsters, keep the power running, and explore a nonlinear map to find whoever is sending the signal.

Genuinely asking, how do we even solve this? How can we make sure that each player has a unique experience? How do we encourage them NOT to check for the answers online? or is this simply a non-issue and I'm way off here?

Optimizing the immersion out of them, leaving only the skeleton of a really well designed game. And is that skeleton enough to really appeal to a wider audience that the AAA machine is looking to sustain?

Overall. My opinion on it is genuinely positive and I’m looking forward to seeing the future of this franchise. Different time periods, the same mythos. I’m invested. I don’t regret my purchase at all. Keep you all posted after 20 hours? Let me know if you’re curious about anything specific.

❌ Open world content feels like it’s gonna run out of steam soon. I already started doing the same few activities just to cross those question marks off the map. It’s not boring quite yet, but I can see the signs. The Duelist difficulty keeps things interesting, but for how long?

❌ Combat has similar issues. The camera constantly locks onto enemies, making repositioning difficult. Once combat starts, you’re stuck until you kill everything or run far enough away. Worse, invisible walls can suddenly block doors you just entered through. Really strange design choice.

❌ There are some weird animation issues here and there. Coen feels especially stiff when running through the environments. Keeps getting stuck in the terrain that I can’t feel that power fantasy of being a super speed creature.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 04/09/2026
✅ The story is captivating enough that I am actually invested in Coen’s journey. But honestly, I’m more invested in the bigger picture here. Who is Brancis serving? That’s what I wanna know.

✅ I like the equipment system too. The ability to make day/night specific loadouts, meaningful stats, perks, everything plays well together and keeps pushing you to experiment with new builds and abilities.

✅ Big fan of the witchcraft and vampiric abilities too. They add enough variety that you could even make some unique builds that can break the game. I also like that you can use one or the other during day and night. Forces you to keep adapting your play style rather than getting you comfortable.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 04/09/2026
✅ The worldbuilding is great. It’s rare to get a new fantasy world that actually feels fresh. Dawnwalker has its own mythologies, religions, and cultures. Unique, yet familiar enough to feel grounded, with nods to Satanism, medieval corruption, and, of course, politics.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 04/09/2026
✅ I like the combat system. Every swing and block requires thought, and you have to watch the enemy’s movements to anticipate attacks. Miss a block and you’re punished hard. In Duelist difficulty, just one or two hits can kill you. Very high risk, high reward.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 04/09/2026
✅ Love the time mechanic. Makes me think about every move I make. What quests to take, what activities to do, what skills to even level up; everything spends time and keeps you on edge.

The Sinking City 2 is great. It's an incredible achievement to have made this game during the invasion of Ukraine. It's clearly a better video game than the original even though it lost something unique in its pivot to survival horror. My review: youtu.be/xQHn8aarU30

A blizzard rages, and you're a lone survivor in a freezing wasteland. Grafted monstrosities seek your warmth, and the wind is your closest semblance of a friend. THERMOCLINE is a survival horror RPG taking place upon a frigid corpse-planet.

While I was uploading these to the website today, I was just enamored with the pure GAS that the Devil May Cry 3 manual had. Every page was a marvel to look at. We really did lose something along the way. That's exactly why I want to preserve these with The Continue Project.

Looks like there are some fan translation projects in progress, but I haven't been able to find any that's finished. It's really not that hard to play once you figure out the menus and the main mechanics.

Unfortunately, there’s no official English localization. That means most players outside Japan never saw it back in the day, making Hungry Ghosts a truly obscure horror game. For that same reason, take all this info with a grain of salt. I literally use Google Translate as I play.

Expect dark, oppressive hallways and exteriors, and eerie spirits. Some actually look pretty weird. And a story that’s more existential dread than blatant scares. Think King's Field atmosphere meets Japanese folklore and Buddhist concepts of rebirth and punishment.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 03/03/2026
Your goal is to reach the Gate of Judgment. But that’s not enough on its own. How you behave, what you help, what you destroy, how you interact with spirits affects whether you’ll be reborn or consigned to eternal suffering.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 03/03/2026
It's all free movement. No point and click stuff. You walk and look around using the left analog stick, perform actions and attack using the right analog stick, R1 to run, etc. Combat is pretty fluid and simple. You literally just push the right analog stick up to attack.

PS2 didn't have many first person games compared to all the other genres, so this by itself is kind of an anomaly, not to mention that it's a first person HORROR game. It actually plays really well, dare I say, beyond its time. Maybe only a little hard to get used to.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 03/03/2026
And I mean there are a lot of choices. Even opening a simple door usually has two choices. Do you investigate first, or do you open the door right away? Also most actions are done by you manually, using the right analog stick. I pause here for a sec before figuring that out.

HORRORVISUALS @horrorvisuals.com · 03/03/2026
Unlike typical survival horror games of its era, this one is first-person, slow, and introspective. Instead of simply only fighting monsters, you navigate the consequences of your choices in a purgatorial world. Narrative choices, contextual actions, and more.

Developed by Deep Space and published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2003, Hungry Ghosts casts you as a lost soul stuck in a limbo-like afterlife, haunted by spirits and judged for your past actions.
