Indeed, a trip to the cinema itself must've been incredibly magical back in '25, but for this to play on the big screen would've taken your breath away. The West End production has taken a fair few quid off me over the years too!

Not sure if I've seen the more comedic version 🤔 but between you and me I love Lloyd-Webber musical. I've seen the stage production a couple of times and even have a soft spot for the film adaption with Gerard Butler...

You're right, it's an astonishing achievement. The 1929 sound reissue is believed lost (in a 1948 Universal fire) but one reel of around 12 minutes still remains and is included on the BFI Blu Ray. Great poster isn't it, I've used the original '25 artwork before so thought I'd give this an airing!

For me it's one of de Palma's most Hitchcockian films, as you say it's almost worthy of the man himself. It's one that I forget I have in the collection, rediscovered it last night and it blew me away. Great stuff!

It's excellent! Really unusual with a fantastic last act, obviously you need an appreciation of the 70s Italian aesthetic (and who doesn't have that?!) but I can't recommend it enough.

Don't quote me, but I believe that Herrmann only scored two films for de Palma, this and 'Obsession' which was released a year after Herrmann's death. If you've not seen this you really must, it's outstanding.
