Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I continuously laughed and the novel always brightened my The book also explores the power of writing and the ways that people on the margins have to edit their expression. More of my thoughts: hlhopkinson.substack.com/p/bookstore-... Most importantly go read the book! #booksky

The joy of searching for treasure in a library or bookstore. #booksky
Quote: "Libraries and bookstores are filled with treasures. Books fill shelves as an overwhelming display of creativity and knowledge in one space. I could spend a whole lifetime and still not be able to read everything, and all books in some way call out to be read, to be noticed." Say—here are about 78 literary journals opening for submissions in October. Some are open now or will close soon in September or October. Genres, themes, & guidelines vary—dates are tentative. These should be no-fee. There are more resources out there, too. Wish y’all well, friends.

Had a dream (nightmare?) that I got so many acceptances to my short stories in my email! BUT.... they were all for the same story, and I was panicking on how to tell the editors what happened without burning bridges. Nice to have your anxieties flare up while sleeping. #writesky

Writing win: I received a personalized rejection that said I made the long list but just missed being accepted by narrow margins. The piece is still waiting to find the right home to be published, but receiving kind letters like that makes it easier to keep going. #writesky

TrackBear (trackbear.app) has been so far a game changer for me as far a consistency of writing. It has been helpful to lay out my goals and what I need to do to reach them. What is something that helps you be consistent with your writing? What encourages you to reach your goals? #writesky

Does God side with the powerful or with the victims? SBC leaders claim they are defending the veracity of their faith and the bible, but the biblical prophets may tell a different story of what God actually cares about. #deconstruction #exvangelical hlhopkinson.substack.com/p/do-we-list...

I feel this so strongly, but my steps currently are: 1. write it and let it be cringe, and then 2. smooth out the cringe in the revision process. And if it is still too cringe and nothing can be done, then I can burn it and never speak of it again. #writesky

Writing a short piece right now, and I noticed that I slipped into present tense at the beginning without thinking about it (it does fit the tone of the piece). How do you guys chose tense? For readers, how tense affect how you read a story? #writingcommunity

Writing a novel is much more intimidating than the short stories that I write. I feel like I'm staring at my self-doubt. It’s a similar process to shorter form writing, but the end result comes together quicker in that case, and I don’t have to sit with my imperfect self as long. #writesky

I think I operate in a similar way. I start with a basic sketch of the character but as I write new details emerge and I come to understand their histories more. Then the editing and revision seeks to bring those two things together. #writesky #awesomcharacters

Thinking about giving my long WIP pieces "project names" (like they do in video games) to talk about it without promising a release of something. Cringe or no? (For fiction I was thinking about naming things after stars and constellations and for nonfiction rocks). #writesky #amwriting
