Sicily Day 93 – An Autumn Sunset.

Autumn evenings in Sicily have their own special magic. The summer crowds have disappeared, the beach is quiet, and the setting sun paints the sky in shades of orange and gold. Dark clouds drift across the horizon while the last rays of sunlight create a golden path across the gently rolling sea.

There is something wonderful about standing by the water, watching the day slowly come to an end. No rush, no noise, just the sound of the waves and another beautiful Sicilian sunset to remember.

Autumn is slowly making its presence felt in Sicily, but there is still plenty of sunshine and warmth to enjoy. Sometimes, the best discoveries aren't famous landmarks or tourist attractions, but simply the views along the road and the pleasure of being here.

Sicily Day 91 — Autumn Is Arriving

The weather is changing, and Sicily is slowly moving into autumn. The bright summer skies are giving way to dramatic clouds, cooler air and a very different light across the countryside.

The hills are becoming greener after the first rains, while the olive groves and fields take on deeper autumn colours. After months of heat and dry landscapes, the countryside feels alive again.

Sicily is changing season — and, as photographers, we couldn't be happier. The changing light and weather are bringing a whole new character to the landscape

Sicily Day 87 — A Quiet Autumn Beach Day

Autumn in Sicily can be pretty special. Today we headed to the beach for a day trip, and the weather could hardly have been better — warm sunshine, blue skies and just a gentle breeze.

The summer crowds have disappeared, leaving the beach wonderfully quiet. A few colourful umbrellas, some people enjoying the water, and plenty of space to simply sit, walk and take in the view.

With the dramatic white cliffs rising behind the beach and crystal-clear water stretching out in front of us, it felt like summer had decided not to leave just yet.

A perfect, peaceful day by the Sicilian sea. 🌊☀️🇮🇹

Today was another day out exploring Sicily, where even the smallest details can become part of the journey. Weathered stone, old markings and traces left behind by people long ago catch the eye when you take the time to look closely.

No famous landmark, no busy tourist attraction — just another piece of Sicily revealing itself along the way. The beauty of these day trips is often found in the unexpected: an old wall, a quiet corner, the textures of time and a little story waiting to be noticed.

Sicily Day 85 — Cleaning the Land

Autumn has arrived in Sicily, and with it comes the annual cleaning of the land. Dry grass and vegetation are being cleared, sometimes with fire, preparing the fields and olive groves for the season ahead.

It is a striking sight — flames moving through the dry landscape beneath the olive trees, turning yesterday’s growth into ash and making way for new life.

Sicily, Day 85 — Autumn is a season of change.

Sicily Day 84 — Under a Changing Sky

Sicily is showing another side of itself. The summer dryness is slowly giving way to the first signs of autumn, while dramatic clouds roll across the wide Sicilian sky.

The hills stretch endlessly into the distance, a patchwork of fields, vineyards and rocky landscapes shaped by centuries of farming. Underneath those enormous clouds, the colours seem to change every minute.

Every old Sicilian street seems to have a story waiting to be discovered. This beautiful stone house, tucked into a narrow street, has clearly seen generations come and go.

The weathered stone, wooden door, iron balconies and shutters all carry a little bit of history. And now there’s a “Vendesi” sign on the front perhaps the beginning of a new chapter for this old house.

Walking through Sicily, it’s often these quiet corners, rather than the famous sights, that catch my eye.

Sicily Day 79 – Where History Stands Still

Today, Sicily took us back thousands of years.

Standing in front of the magnificent Greek temple at the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, it is hard not to wonder about the people who built it, lived here, worshipped here, and walked these same grounds so long ago.

The warm stone, deep blue sky and towering columns create a scene that feels almost unreal. Yet this isn't a reconstruction — this is history, still standing.

A narrow track winds its way between dry grasses, wild shrubs and olive trees, leading towards the hills in the distance. The landscape may look dry and rugged, but there is still plenty of life hidden among the vegetation.

Today we travelled to Palermo and stepped into the breathtaking world of the Palatine Chapel. From the moment we entered, it felt like stepping back through centuries of Sicilian history.Every surface seemed to tell a story. Golden mosaics covered the walls and ceilings, catching the light and bringing biblical scenes, kings and saints to life. The incredible detail of the tiny mosaic pieces is something that photographs can hardly capture.Standing there surrounded by all that gold, colour and history, it was easy to forget the busy streets of modern Palermo outside. An early morning walk through the Sicilian countryside can turn into a little adventure. Around a bend, hidden among the trees and overgrown vegetation, I discovered this old abandoned house.

The walls, the weathered roof tiles and the remains of the rooms tell a story of a life that once took place here. Nature is slowly reclaiming the building, growing through the windows and across the roof.

No signs, no explanation—just an unexpected glimpse into Sicily’s past, waiting quietly to be discovered.

With their hand-painted scenes of churches, saints, local buildings and everyday Sicilian life, they feel like small windows into the history and character of the town. Ceramics have a long tradition in Sicily, with religious and decorative majolica panels used on buildings for centuries.

Sicily Day 56 — another glimpse of the incredible history hiding in plain sight.

Sometimes the best photographs are simply about stopping for a moment and noticing what is right in front of you. Sicily is full of these little surprises. 📸

Sicily day 54.

A windy day in the Sicilian countryside. The washing is dancing on the line, the towels catching every gust, while the old farmhouse and the garden carry on as usual.

Sometimes it’s the simplest moments that tell the best story of life in Sicily — sunshine, a warm breeze, freshly washed towels and the sound of the wind moving through the trees.

Just another beautiful day in Sicily. 🇮🇹

A little green oasis in the middle of the dry Sicilian countryside. 🌿☀️

This young fruit tree stands proudly among the olive trees, its branches full of small fruits despite the intense summer heat. Around it, the landscape is a beautiful contrast of dry golden grass, ancient olive trees and distant hills baked by the Sicilian sun.

There is something reassuring about seeing new trees growing here—a small sign of life and hope in a landscape shaped by heat, drought and time.

A tiny visitor taking centre stage on a bright yellow flower.

In the quiet of the garden, there is always something happening if you take the time to look closely. This little insect was busy exploring the flower, completely unaware that it had become the subject of today’s photograph.

The vivid yellow petals, fresh green leaves and dark background make this a simple but striking moment from everyday life in Sicily. Sometimes the smallest things make the best photographs.

Sicily Day 50.

The quiet streets of Alessandria della Rocca suddenly became a racetrack.

For one weekend, the town was taken over by the Slalom Città di Alessandria della Rocca, part of the Sicilian Slalom Championship. The race runs along a 2.84 km section of the SS118, with 13 chicanes challenging the drivers’ skill, precision and nerve.

Standing beside the road as these lightweight racing cars screamed past was quite a contrast to the usual slow pace of Sicilian village life. This is motorsport at its most raw — engines, tyres, speed and the smell of hot asphalt, all surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Agrigento.

A very different side of Sicily, and a fantastic Day 50 for the photo blog.

Sicily day 49.

Today the quiet roads around Alessandria della Rocca were transformed into a racetrack. The 6th Slalom Città di Alessandria della Rocca, part of the Sicilian Slalom Championship, brought roaring engines, colourful racing cars and plenty of excitement to this small Sicilian town.

This little Fiat, with its classic blue-and-yellow livery, came flying through the corner right in front of me. It was a great reminder that in Sicily, even an ordinary Sunday can suddenly turn into a spectacular motorsport event.

The race took place on a 2.84 km section of the SS118, with 13 chicanes challenging the drivers. And judging by the crowds and the atmosphere, the locals certainly know how to enjoy their racing!

Day 48 – Sicily 🇮🇹

A small Sicilian town, a sunny morning, and suddenly the streets come alive with music. The local band marching through town brings together generations, turning an ordinary street into a colourful celebration.

There is something wonderfully Sicilian about it — music, community, tradition, and a little bit of chaos, all happening in the middle of everyday life. No grand stage needed. The town itself becomes the stage, and everyone is part of the show.

Just another unforgettable moment from our Sicily journey. 🎶🇮🇹

Day 47 – The Giants of Palermo

Palermo is a city of extraordinary trees. Among the buildings, streets and busy squares, you suddenly come across these enormous Ficus, with trunks that seem to be made from many trees growing together.

Their aerial roots descend from the branches, slowly reaching the ground and becoming new supporting trunks. The result is almost architectural — nature creating its own columns, walls and arches. Palermo’s historic gardens are home to many exotic species, helped by the city’s mild Mediterranean climate.

Standing beside these giants makes you realise just how small we are. They have been growing here for generations, quietly watching Palermo change around them.

Day 46 – A Little Piece of Italy

Day 46 in Sicily, and today I discovered a little piece of Italian history quietly resting among the olive trees.

This old Fiat 500 has clearly lived a life. The faded paint, patches of rust and battle scars tell a story far more interesting than any showroom-perfect classic ever could. Once a familiar sight on Italian roads, the tiny Cinquecento became an icon of post-war Italy and is still deeply connected with the idea of la dolce vita.

Now it sits quietly in the Sicilian countryside, slowly being reclaimed by time and nature.

Not every beautiful thing has to be restored. Sometimes the peeling paint and imperfections are what make a photograph worth taking.

Day 46 — Sicily. Another small discovery in the everyday life of this island.

Sicily Day 45. Every day of our journey through Sicily tells a different story. We are spending three and a half months on an olive farm near a small village in the province of Agrigento. Rather than chasing only the famous landmarks, we are capturing the island as we experience it, its landscapes, villages, coastlines, wildlife, architecture, people, and the unexpected moments in between.

This daily photo is a small window into our adventure, revealing the beauty, character, and atmosphere that make Sicily such a remarkable place. Some days bring dramatic scenery, while others offer quiet streets, colourful markets, ancient history, or simply a fleeting moment of light that lasts only a few seconds.

We hope these daily images inspire you to discover Sicily beyond the guidebooks and to appreciate the extraordinary beauty hidden in everyday life.
