Hollinger POTD Juan Dixon. Maryland G won NCAA title & then drafted 17th in 2002 by WAS. Undersized bench scorer as pro, peaking at 12 ppg in 05-06 w/POR. Played in NBA thru 2009 (also w/DET & TOR). Coached after retirement w/Coppin State.

Bonus Hollander POTD Derrick McKey. Alabama F was drafted 9th by SEA in 87. Scored 14 ppg w/good defense his 1st 6 yrs in SEA. Traded to IND in 93 & helped as versatile SF for title contender. Was 2x All-Defense. Played thru 2002. Very underrated.

Hollander POTD Kenny Anderson. NYC PG starred at Georgia Tech drafted 2nd by NJ in 91. Fitch sat him as a rookie but blossomed under Daly. Super quick penetrator who had a great handle. Peaked at 19 ppg 9.6 apg & all-star in 93-94. Also spent time w/POR & BOS thru 2005.

From the 90-91 Rotisserie Hoops book, the center position: -It was not alluring after Wilt/Russ "unless Cartwright posting up Breuer makes you feel all tingly" -In fact by 90, the NBA had 3 stud bigs (Ewing, Hakeem & DRob) -Also a few snarky bios (Uwe Blab burns are timeless)

Bonus Hollander POTD Monty Williams. Notre Dame SF was drafted 24th by NY in 94. Played a little as a rook but wasn't allowed to shoot. Traded to SA where he peaked at 9 ppg in 96-97. Also played w/ORL, DEN & PHI thru 03. Has coached in NO, PHO & DET (which is still paying him).

Hollander POTD Jim McElroy. Central Michigan G was drafted 38th in 75 by NO. Made the team & developed into a starter peaking at 17 ppg, 6 rpg, 2 spg in 78-79. Signed w/DET in 79 but traded to ATL shortly after but had Achilles issues and retired in 82.

In July 02, CLE traded vet PG Andre Miller to LAC for Miles, who was a hot prospect. It was a big deal at the time but both players did not do much in their new homes (Miller hated being a Clipper): www.espn.com/nba/news/200...

Hollinger POTD Darius Miles. HS phenom from E St Louis was drafted 3rd in 2000 by LAC. Great physical skills was raw & but couldn't shoot well. Traded to CLE in 02 & flipped to POR where he had career high 14 ppg in 05-06 before knee problems ended his career.

Redo Bonus Hollander POTD Bob Martin. Hustling MIN C was not drafted and went to CBA. After a yr in the CBA stuck w/LAC in 93-94 as back up big. Made team again in 94-95 but cut after 1 gm played, ending NBA career.

86-87 Alabama had 4 pros: Farmer, Derrick McKey, Michael Ansley & Keith Askins. They went 28-5 (16-2 in SEC) but were beaten by 21 to Pitino's Providence team in the Sweet 16 (the Friars shot an unreal 14-20 from 3).

Hollander POTD Carl Nicks. Indiana State G was drafted 23rd in 80 by DEN. Traded after 27 games to UTA where he played 2 seasons & scored 7 ppg. Played 9 gms w/CLE in 82-83 & he fell out NBA. Played abroad from 83-89 and has since coached.

Hollander POTD Wendell Ladner. Southern Miss SF signed w/MEM of ABA in 70-71. Was an all-star his 1st 2 yrs but settled into enforcer/hustler role after. Per coach Babe McCarthy: "will win any game he's in. It's just a question of for which team." Sadly died in plane crash in 75.

Hollinger POTD Yuta Tabuse. Speedy little Japanese PG went to Hawaii but was undrafted in 02. Made PHO in 03-04 but was cut after playing 4 gms. Played in G-League from 05-08 (6 ppg). Returned to Japan where he is still playing now at age-46.

Bonus Hollander POTD Chris Whitney. Clemson PG was drafted 47th in 93 by SA. Made the team but didn't get much time. Waived in 95 & hooked up w/WAS where he played 8 yrs as mostly a backup, except 01-02 when he started & had 10 ppg 4 apg. Retired in 04 & now works in real estate.

Hollander POTD Rex Chapman. Kentucky SG was drafted 8th in 88 by CHA. He scored well but had low FG%. Shot selection got better when he went to WAS in 92. Peaked at 18.2 ppg in 93-94. Signed w/PHO in 96 & played well, including those crazy shots he hit in 97 playoffs.

Hollinger POTD Kurt Thomas. PF from TCU led NCAA in PPG/RPG. MIA drafted 10 in 95. After 1 good yr, broke ankle + traded to DAL. Missed 2 yrs, career looked over til NY signed in 99 + was solid thru 05 (11 ppg 8 rpg). Was steady vet for many teams til 2013. Known as "Crazy Eyes."

Bonus Hollander POTD Truck Robinson. Tennessee St PF drafted by WAS but peaked in NO in 77-78 where he led NBA w/15.7 rpg +was all-star. Traded to PHO, where he remained good. In 82, PHO traded him to NY where he was only role player. Injured in 84-85+retired after 2 games.

Hollander POTD Grant Hill. Duke star was drafted 3rd in 94 by DET. Immediate star who got tagged as anti-Gen X good guy (to his annoyance). Was HOF-level for DET (all-NBA 5x) before breaking ankle in 00 playoffs. Signed w/ORL but was never the same. Still, solid pro thru 2013.

In 81-82, Green's freshman year at Oregon St, the Beavers went 25-5 and made the NCAA regional finals before losing to Georgetown. Future NBAers besides Green were Charlie Sitton & Lester Conner.
