This weekend sees a retreat at the Seminarhaus in Grainau, at the base of the #Zugspitze in the Alps. I can’t attend every year, but always enjoy both the atmosphere and the gentle good vibes. The view from our balcony is awesome, and the town is so charming it almost looks fake.

Today is the first day of #Oktoberfest here in #Munich. The city is full of jolly people in Lederhosen and Dirndl, traditional Bavarian folk costume called Tracht, heading off to the meadow for some day-drinking merriment. They’re all speaking English or Italian. #München #dailywalk

Today’s rather clever #Denglisch: hap-pi. Not being a native German speaker, it took me a while to fully appreciate the pun on this birthday card. In German, pi is not pronounced “pie”, but rather “pee”. The joke relies on what linguists call Spelling Pronunciation. #linguisticsnerd
