thinking about chihayafuru again..

"playing something like karuta leads nowhere, no...?"
even if she can't become a professional player or make a living with karuta, and even if it's not me she goes home together with, I'm still glad she has karuta.

the last frame shifts from focusing on the speaker to chihaya walking home happily alongside her large group of friends

the page focuses on chihaya listening intently to the previous karuta queen, now a mother carrying her child home and looking at his toy car.

"but I'm sure... that when I look back 20 years from now, I'll see even the body of my 35 year old self the way it is now as a super car too.. and wish I floored it more at the time."

a beautiful page with no dialogue.

wakamiya shinobu, the karuta queen, is grasping chihaya's hand with both wearing hakama and kimono. it's depicted as if they're climbing up mt. fuji by themselves beneath a starry sky

an old lady reaching her hand out toward suo, the caruta king as he thinks "I wanted to be the best in front of you"

he starts to tear up as she states "hehe this isn't like me, but seeing how good you were made me wish I wasn't the reader for that game."

now depicting the lady much younger, to back when she was queen, she continues "I wanted to go back to 40 years ago and play against you."

sotuh 1 1 repeat: i win with a double yakuman tsumo and go +65,200. both my opponents died from this.

sometimes you're drawing an anime girl and a friend tells you she looks like a sick rat when you move the mouth down so you gotta adjust accordingly

cute anime girl with big pink hair vents and an ahoge as swirly as her glasses. but she's also a mouse now and what was her drooling mouth is a nose with snot

rodore styling her hair to be similar to mamiina's is such a sweet little touch..

simoun screencap. rodoreamon and paraietta stand beside one another, now years older than they were in previous episodes. rodore's hair now heavily resembles mamiina's old haircut, with a braid circling around the back and a large red bow just above it.

most impressive part of the night was managing to turn this first picture into the second :3c if youre given a trash hand with a pair of dora, then your hand might not be trash

the start of a round of mahjong. it's south q with relatively close scores. I have a pair of dora, but not enough groups and plenty of awkward setups. this looks like it'll be difficult to finish this hand

it's all triplets, actually. in spite of only originally having two pairs.

the early triplet of dora slowed others down and I even got a kan to nab 2 more dora (which becomes 3 for a baiman tsumo)

aubey @honksnooze.moe.observer · 18/07/2026

lots of ups and downs in the whale cup today, but i managed to lock in and play some Actually Good mahjong after some bad 3rds. now i'm at least going positive and setting up for another solid streak of games tomorrow

matches played: 8
highest score in 6 straight matches: +66.3
best rank in 6 straight matches: 2nd/1st/3rd/3rd/2nd (and another 1st that isn't shown)
