He wouldn't know what "rococo" meant. It's got three syllables. Mind you, I think it's more "Baroque" and he wouldn't know what that meant either.

I agree with your stance, but I think you need to rephrase "£40 billion less per capita": "per capita" is posh for "per head" or "per person". I don't think anyone spends that much per person.

True. But the NHS isn't squeaky clean on that score. It poaches staff trained at great expense from countries that can less well afford it.

And as an early UK adopter (wish I wasn't) who bought all the bells and whistles, I wish I could turn off even more of the useless gimmicks I bought.

I think you've fudged it. How can pensions keep pace with earnings if you remove that link? If they do, as now, where are the savings? What savings can go to the National Care Service (which we already have in Scotland, BTW) if pensioners aren't getting less than they had before. Smoke and mirrors.

He had one of those too: both at the same time. The fuel crisis had made the P6 almost valueless, so it became my mother's car while he ran the SD1.

When you say "during the First World War" (the family spat among cousins in which, luckily, hardly anyone of any importance was killed) you mean "near the end of the First World War when it became clear the German cousin wouldn't win".

Justifying any opinion/policy by calling it common sense is a red flag. Every swivel-eyed loony on the planet thinks their opinion is common sense. They wouldn't hold it otherwise. Common sense is a logical fallacy ("appeal to incredulity") and about as convincing as "It's obvious innit?"

I remember buying stick on ones. Also those stick-on plastic panels that "double-glazed" a bit of the middle of your rear screen. Neither worked very well.

Can they return to her policy on the Single Market (of which she was a major architect). It was, after all, the only decent policy she had.

The "sovrintee" argument was always the stupidest. Every treaty involves limiting your scope for action (sovereignty) to some degree. You agree to do (or not do) something in return for your ally doing (or not doing) something...to your mutual benefit. The rot started in Windsor in 1386.

Hard agree. I got my Tesla M3 in 2019 (very early U.K. adopter...was on the waiting list for two years). It was, despite the shitty irritating gimmicks, by far the best EV on the road at the time. Now? Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole, even if the Space Nazi wasn't such an embarrassment.

She accepts that Zionism is racist on so many words, and adds "AND response to racism". How does accepting a motion that Zionism is racist (which she accepts) incompatible with that? I'm not taking sides here, just pointing out the illogicality of her position.

The article says it's a "vow to rethink Brexit". So he's leaving himself more wiggle room than a meeting of Wiggly Weasels Anonymous. Same as lifting the ban on public ownership of water, rather than banning private ownership. Both could result in nothing. Why would he leave himself that option?

Except the only decent thing which was to help create the Single Market, and back the EU.

Repealing the ban on public ownership might result in nothing. Imposing a ban on private ownership would have been bold. He's left himself wiggle room. I fear he'll use it.

I was driving an Alfasud. My father had a Rover 3500S, which is respectably high up the list for such an upmarket vehicle. It was a gem, TBF.

I'm astonished at how gracious the EU as a body, and so many of its constituent Member States are being to the U.K. I wouldn't touch us with a barge pole. "You flounced out? Stay out till you learn to be good members." De Gaulle wasn't entirely wrong when he vetoed our entry for so long.

If lying in the place where laws are enforced (the courts) is an offence (perjury) why isn't lying in the chambers where laws are made? The penalties should be more severe.

It's depicting reality, offensive as that reality might be. To have the African in top hat and tails, or in a position of authority would plainly be silly.

Don't repeal the ban on public ownership (which might have zero effect: I can hear the cries of "practical difficulties" already...again, he leaves himself wiggle room). Instead put a ban on private ownership.

Honest Dr John @honestdrjohn.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
"Control" gives him wiggle room, which I fear he'll use. Hellfire, current (pisspoor) regulation could've described as "control". He could tweak it and announce "Job done!" Ownership would be the bold move, and a vote winner.* *but it might upset some donors.

My Aunt Lily and her friend Clare, both British long-time, bilingual residents in France, were trying to spell something over the phone to a French official. Aunt Lily: "A pour Apple." Clare (correcting her): "No, no, Lily...it's 'A pour pomme'."

Yeah, but Scottish pensioners are losing the triple lock for something they already have. Not to mention the higher rates of income tax.
