The number of new homes receiving planning permission has fallen by 21% in the last quarter, providing compelling evidence to support Government’s decision to introduce a new equity loan scheme to support first-time buyers and boost housing supply. #HousingPipeline

Your responses will help shape our priorities. This quarter’s survey asks about Affordable Housing and medium-sized sites, including why registered providers are not bidding for Section 106 units or submitting unviable bids. SME home builders, share your insight now. 👉️ buff.ly/Rl1RrKK

36% of SME home builders have already delayed, redesigned or cancelled schemes ahead of the Building Safety Levy. It contributes to the rising sum to build each new home, which now stands at around £76,000. That's why we're calling on Government to pause the levy and assess its impact on viability

Help to Buy didn't just support buyers. It helped double housing supply. By 2018, housing delivery in England had doubled compared with pre-scheme levels, driven by higher sales rates, increased confidence & mortgage availability Since the scheme closed, housing output has fallen to 200,000 homes

Without a consistent approach to the negotiation, approval and adoption of new roads, local authorities apply different standards, fees, timescales, bond requirements and approaches to calculating costs.
Infographic summarising delays and rising costs for highways adoption on new housing: councils taking up to 12 years (4-year average), highway bond costs up ~170% since 2018 (£125k→£338k), averaging ~£7,000 per home, and HBF calling for consistent national standards.

Private home builders deliver around a third of England's Affordable Housing, investing around £9bn last year alone. But housing projects securing approval fell 13% in Q1 2026. Removing the vaiability barriers and affordability pressures holding back housing delivery is becoming more urgent each day
