Dread. An inevitability. An acceptance of fate, and perhaps even death. You feel like, or perhaps would simply rather, walk with someone you love and trust down this road. But no- the road lies empty all except for the lamp, steadily awaiting your passage.

Hope is somewhat hypocritical. It asks for belief because the predicted outcome has already been accepted as failure. To have hope you have to finish mourning for the things you have yet to lose.

I imagine that trees don't experience regret. The way they twist and contort is simply a result of wherever the sun decides to shine. They're making what they determine to be the best decision, moment to moment, just as we do.
