Excited to share my new article - "Motherhood as a 'risky choice': How Japanese women describe their pathways to childlessness." It's part of a forthcoming special issue in the Chinese Journal of Sociology on gender inequality within and beyond East Asia 🙂 Read here: doi.org/10.1177/2057...

Excited to share my new article, out now in @sfjournal.bsky.social Using in-depth interviews with childless women in the U.S. and Japan, I examine how macro-level context shapes subjective experiences of childlessness. I find some surprising things—check it out 🤓 academic.oup.com/sf/article/d...

Had a nice day presenting at #AAS2026 on women's reproductive decision-making in Japan. Hard to not enjoy a conference when it's in your own city, and when the views look like this 😱

First post on here, hi everyone! I'm Holly, a PhD candidate at Harvard studying family, gender, and fertility. My dissertation focuses on women's childlessness, asking how this historically non-normative family status is experienced by women in both the United States and Japan.
