Still a great series, highly recommend it. Just be aware that there’s one episode you maybe don’t want to watch surrounded by incidental shoulder-surfers.

I had this but with Delicious in Dungeon. Watched the first ~half of the series at home. Seemed totally airplane-watchable! So I took the rest on a plane. But suddenly at like the 2/3 point there’s an episode with two of the characters (women, of course) bathing, and I’m awkwardly fast-forwarding.

Love that the plums are out! I’m watching a mailing list I’m on for plum #2s to show up at a local warehouse so I can grab a box like that and make a plum mead

Gotta say I cannot recommend inhaling a grain of quinoa while eating a salad. It’s not super pleasant. Turns out people can’t breathe amaranth seeds

*We* also don’t want to be talking about this! The default position should be “don’t make any new rules banning kids participating in sports, let them play”

Ugh *Talarico* was the one who decided to engage with the issue. “Talk about what the 99% cares about.” No shit, which is why it’d have been great for him to say ~“I refuse to entertain questions about trans athletes in youth sports, because I really want to focus on (e.g.,) economic policy.”

Man, Canadians are up here _innovating_. I just got a giant bowl of chicken shawarma poutine. In unrelated news, I overate and now wish to lie down.
A paper takeout bowl filled with french fries, brown gravy, cheese curds, shaved spit-roasted chicken, a white garlic sauce, and a red hot sauce. A bit of the top layer of meat has been eaten away to reveal the fries and gravy underneath.

And the lovely thing is, a little bit of close listening and validation can do wonders for a person’s mental health, but too much can be disastrous.

The Seattle Vertices. Logo is a graph arranged to resemble the space needle, but there’s other merch that uses the same graph in the shape of other city symbols. It’s probably isomorphic to one of our more nonsensical intersections.

Even if that didn’t include shipping, probably yes. I think most people buying indie board games understand and expect paying a little more for something that wasn’t printed at scale.

Now that DAGnabbit! is out there, I’m on to the next project, which is, I suppose, also the last project! I’m planning a re-release of last year’s indie market game for early next year! This will be my first self-published game outside of game markets.

And it’s under _really_ active development. Every time I look at it again some part’s been substantially improved.

• PAX West staff and enforcers for making the whole thing possible • The other vendors! Events like this only work when there’s a supportive community behind them.

Big big thanks to: • @connor.alwaysawake.games and @tedmannschaller.bsky.social for organizing and running the market! • @nomadotto.bsky.social for setting up the group dinner for the vendors • @emilyhancock.bsky.social for designing the posters for the event [continued]

So what marketing we’re doing is working! I’m sure there’s room for improvement, but people are finding us. I only have my perspective as a vendor, but the market felt well-run, so whatever minor catastrophes most certainly happened behind the scenes, the organizers shielded us well from them.
140
Hollis makes games @hollis.computer · 06/09/2026
That said, some people definitely came to the market having read over the online catalog. I got a few people who said they’d read about DAGnabbit! and headed straight to my table to check it out, and I overheard some bits of conversations that suggested the same happened for other games.

Hollis makes games @hollis.computer · 06/09/2026
For the market itself: I think it went great! We had a huge line out front at the start. I think this was helped by the fact that the market opened right as the main tabletop vendor hall closed, and they made some intercom announcements pointing folks our way. bsky.app/profile/fanf...

This was also the first big outing for my new business cards, which have a tiny roll-and-write game on the back! Folks who picked up a card were generally delighted to see the game, and for a market in was nice to have a cool little freebie to hand out to everyone.
Two of my business cards on a table, one front face up and one back face up. The front face has my name and some contact information. The back face has a board on which two players can play Confetti, as well as a QR code that points to the rules (same link as in the body of the next post)

As part of my demos, the market collectively played about 2.5 solo games. The two finished games ended with scores of 19 (nearly perfect!) and 17 (not bad!). The best possible score is 21.
A top-down photo of the demo area on the table from the customer side. There’s two finished DAGnabbit! boards in the top left corner with their scores circled, and the rest of the space is occupied by a game in progress, with 11 arrows drawn so far.

Knowing that there is an audience for mathy games, maybe there will be more in the future! I’ve even got a hidden movement game on the back burner that’s actually about group theory… (the boards are all finite nonabelian groups!)
140
Hollis makes games @hollis.computer · 06/09/2026
But I didn’t want a theme; I wanted it to be unapologetically about math! The game evolved name-first, after all. If it weren’t for the silly math pun, it wouldn’t even exist. So to see a double-digit number of strangers be delighted by the game is truly joyous and validating!

Hollis makes games @hollis.computer · 06/09/2026
I was unsure what the reception would be. Part of the reason DAGnabbit! is an indie market game is I think any publisher who wanted the game would start with the question, “can we find a resonant theme to explain why we’re drawing these arrows?”

DAGnabbit! at the PNW Tabletop Game Market: postmortem time! I sold 28 copies of the game, just under 60% of what I brought to the market. That’s 28 people who were as excited to play my weird little math game as I was to make it!

Hench is a strange, lovely beast. It’s as far as it gets from Edward Damon’s previous title, Rex Regnat, and not only because its Saturday morning cartoon vibe is a sharp contrast with …

Made the table sign for the game market and finished packaging the last few copies of DAGnabbit!. 9 days left, but almost everything is in order.
A table sign for DAGnabbit!, sitting on top of a pile of finished copies of the game. The sign has the game’s logo at the top, a description broken up by arrows in the middle (“a ➡️ mathy ➡️ puzzly ➡️ flip-and-write ➡️ game ➡️ about drawing ➡️ directed graphs”), and some info about the game at the bottom (“1-6 players, 15ish minutes, all ages, $35”)

If you depend on ad revenue and you know that YouTube frequently demonetizes videos where it detects the word “sex” in the captions, well, guess we’re talking about “seggs” now, or “s🥚” once it catches onto that.

I agree, but I think the correct place to direct that ire is toward the platforms that created incentive structures for creators to do that. They reward reach, but then artificially stifle videos based on contextless puritanical rules.

I love the use of “nucleation point” for the way a piece of furniture not in constant use attracts clutter, but also I’m angry because it’s such a succinct description of a thing I do that (despite this conversation not involving me at all) it sounds like a personal attack.

Regrettably, there were no leftovers. Not pointing fingers, but *someone* ate several of these, going so far as to refrigerate some of the batter and make some pear and gruyere versions for breakfast the next day.

When you add a submodule to your repo it should give you a list of sane alternatives to what you’re doing (“have you considered forking the repo and using an actual package manager?”) and make you confirm that you really want to make everything that touches this repo 21% harder.

Picked up some buckwheat flour for another recipe, but I figured I’d try my hand at a galette breton. It may not be perfectly shaped, but it was delicious.
A buckwheat crepe with a fried egg in the center. The edges are partially folded over the egg, but kinda raggedly and unevenly. Not pictured: there’s some Gruyère under the egg.
