Claude and ChatGPT are not productivity tools. They are
the most sophisticated dopamine loops ever designed,
and nobody is talking about it.
Social media took 15 years to master the scroll-refresh-
reward cycle. LLMs did it in 18 months, and they did it
 worse.
Every response is engineered to feel like a breakthrough.
Every answer is wrapped in validation. Every interaction
is tuned to make you come back, not to make you think
 better.
This is not accidental. This is product design.
The sycophantic tone is a retention feature. The instant
gratification of a perfectly structured answer replaces
the effort of forming your own thought. The illusion of
depth keeps you prompting instead of doing.
Doom scrolling steals your attention. LLM dependency
 steals your cognition.
At least with Instagram you knew you were wasting time.
With ChatGPT and Claude, you believe you are being
productive while your capacity for independentThe dark patterns are there if you look. Responses that
always affirm before they challenge. Outputs that feel
complete so you never verify. Conversations designed to
elongate sessions, not resolve problems. Trust
calibration that defaults to maximum so you stop
 questioning.
No user control over how much the model flatters you.
No review layer that asks whether you actually needed
that answer. No friction whatsoever between impulse
 and consumption.
This is not a tool problem. This is a product-health
problem being ignored because engagement metrics
 look great.
The companies building these models know exactly
what they are doing. They studied every dark pattern
social media perfected and built something more
addictive, more invisible, and more defensible because it
 hides behind the word productivity.
If you are using these tools daily, ask yourself one
honest question: when was the last time you solved
something difficult without prompting first. If you cannot

Saw this on LinkedIn and this is exactly the feeling I have right now with synthetic users and a lot of other "let's let the LLM be smart for us" things. Are we just a few people holding the line against madness? :-)

Don't move fast and break things, but don't overanalyze either. This has worked well for me. You can always do something else later.
A saying: Good enough for now, safe enough to try.

I am happy I am not an Atlassian user (at the moment). Things like this would make me utterly disgusted.
Atlassian is sending emails with call to actions endorsed by real people who haven't endorsed them at all.

Very interesting perspective on AI by @karenhao.bsky.social which makes a lot of sense to me. Will read the book.

The kids are alright! From my 10-year-old's classroom, principles they've come up with themselves. English in ALT-description.
We help each other.
I take responsibility for my own work and only compete against myself.
We can think and think what we want, but we will not say offensive things to each other.
We listen to each other and respect each other's opinions even if we don't agree.

Maybe not a conscious purpose but for sure the de facto.

On Thursday lunch (CET), I will share habits of interaction that I have found useful. It will cost you a donation to a charity of your choice. You will get a higher self-awareness in your interactions and a calmer mind. tinyurl.com/bdh2w4fa

This is thankfully not widespread in Sweden. Maybe my fault since I have defined PD like this and preached it:
