We finally decided that to nail down the crucial "prophecy" which sets things in motion for #CursedWIP, we needed to dig into divination. So I (Holfelder) have spent the morning skimming astrology and tarot. I am having a wonderful time. :) #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Today, in plotting, the words "magic nuke" are being thrown around. The nuke in question is a person. What even is story planning? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #Cursed

That's a good reminder...I tend to go hard on things and I need to remember to take it easy. Ugh, I'm bad at pacing myself!

Thanks :) We are excited to hopefully get back into a routine, and I am so glad to be writing again. I've missed it!

yeah, taking a big break was not planned but was necessitated. i had a medication change in January that caused extreme anxiety for about 6 months. Then I just *crashed* from the stress. I've been hauling my ass out of that hole for a couple months now. But seeing light finally!

[2/2] the doc too. We made some changes, which on the surface appear minor, but they give our story a needed bit of sparkle & uniqueness. It's shaking things up a lot, so we have a whole lot more ?? than answers at this time, but I'm excited to find those answers! #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

Hi 👋It's been a while (again). I (Holfelder) am still in burnout recovery, but seeing some major progress - including a renewed interest in writing and specifically, #Cursed. I was able to get some writing done this week, and because we get more dopamine when we work together, Watson jumped on [1/2]

Holfelder & Watson - Two Nerds in a Trench Coat @holfelderwatson.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

The entire gang of #WOTV are kind of on a ghost hunt throughout the book. Well, "undead" is more accurate but there are definitely ghosts involved. A lot of them. But Emmi is a banshee, which in our world help souls cross to the Beyond, so ghosts are pretty standard. #WriteSky #QueerPrompts

This week saw actual progress again on #Cursed! Some actual words were added to the manuscript, and a *lot* of thinking was done. We've made some changes that might seem small but will impact the story and its uniqueness in BIG ways :D I'm excited to be back (again) #QueerWriters #WritingCommunity

Reasons I love Watson: she has the BEST ideas. She found a niche for #Cursed and we are now cooking with...coal. *mischievous grin* #WritingCommunity

[2/2] He comes to realize that he can be loved and cared for in a nonsexual way and in a fulfilling relationship without sex. It's *wild* to him. #QueerPrompts #WriteSky #WritingCommunity

In #Cursed, Tristan learns that he is worthy of love. He's ace, and knows it, but has come to believe that you have to be sexual to be cared for. He assumes he's just never going to be in a relationship, until he learns about Monica & Shae's "technical" marriage. #QueerPrompts [1/2]

Well, in the last 24 hours, both Watson and I (Holfelder) have dug our grubby little fingers back into the #Cursed manuscript. Does this mean we are returning? Gods, I hope so! #WritingCommunity

Holfelder & Watson - Two Nerds in a Trench Coat @holfelderwatson.bsky.social · 20/09/2026

Hahaha oh I hear you! It's wild how writing just...happens? And you don't always know how or where the heck it comes from. It just comes and one has to just...scribble it down and hope for the best :) Thanks, you also! I'm going to try to write a little more this morning and see where it goes!

010

Holfelder & Watson - Two Nerds in a Trench Coat @holfelderwatson.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

I think the words have slowly been reforming as I've been resting, and when I sat down to write, they were able to come again. I never know just *how* my fingers know what to type, but they do. :)

111

Holfelder & Watson - Two Nerds in a Trench Coat @holfelderwatson.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Thanks! :) It's been rough forcing myself to rest and listen to what my body needs. I'm a go-go-go type of person, and I hate not being able to DO things. That said, I managed 3k of (pretty solid) new stuff, so I'm happy with that progress.

110

Holfelder & Watson - Two Nerds in a Trench Coat @holfelderwatson.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Huh. That "poking" resulted in 3k of new material. I'll take it. :)

Holfelder & Watson - Two Nerds in a Trench Coat @holfelderwatson.bsky.social · 19/09/2026

Hey, all! Update: I (Holfelder) am still in burnout recovery & Watson is still deep in the trenches of toddler-momhood. That said, I am going to go poke at #Cursed & see if I can get anything new written today. I've poked at it recently & did some minor edits. Let's see what today brings!

[2/2] Monica practices what Nix calls "catch and release" with men, and Shae is essentially asexual and doesn't give a shit. She's too busy being a butch quilter after hours of being a magical peace officer. #Cursed #AwesomeCharacters

TBH my fav couple in #Cursed right now is Nix's aunt Shae and her wife Monica. The two of them are queer platonic partners, married and raising Monica's daughter Celeste and providing a loving home for Nix. It's an open platonic relationship. [1/2] #AwesomeCharacters

Oh I popped back in at just the right time. The back-burner story of Liam & Sanal fts Dr. Sanal Chand, an aromantic asexual agender individual who wants a life partner, sans romance. I miss writing them and Liam, but Watson & I agreed our "murder mystery" skills need to sharpen a bit. #QueerPrompts

Right now, my goal is Survive. I'm (Holfelder) in burnout recovery and so using my brain is rough right now. If I get anything writing related done, that's a big deal. I'm hoping that by taking time off, I can eventually get to the point where I can reliably write again. #QueerWriters

Tristan managed to make a major enemy just by existing...but that's not his fault. Technically, that's on her for not paying more attention to her spellcasting. Otherwise, both Tris and Nix generally make more friends than enemies. They still have a lot of enemies though... #QueerPrompts #WriteSky

In #Cursed, our romantic leads are Tristan and Phoenix "Nix". Part of what I love about their story is that while there is instant attraction, the romance is a bit more slow burn. Tristan isn't ready for a relationship, and Nix doesn't think he wants one at all. Of course, he's wrong... #SumLuv

It was sad to put the mystery down, but we definitely need to hone our craft a bit more before we can craft what the story needs.

We'll probably query to indies, frankly. I think that #WOTV could go trad, in all honesty, and maybe #Cursed, too, but I'm not sure that I *want* everything that comes with trad. We'll discuss that together when the time comes. Gotta write the things first! #SummerOfStories #WriteSky

In #Cursed, Nix's aunt Shae is married to her "technical wife" Monica. They got married for financial stability, health insurance & because bffs. It's a queerplatonic partnership, really. Monica is "catch and release" w/ men; Shae "doesn't like anyone like that" (both according to Nix) #QueerPrompts

Yes! I've had characters come out as completely different people once I decided to get to know them and stop forcing them into what I *thought* they were.
