#throwbackthursday A Cretaceous echinoid, Hardouinia mortonis, just waiting to be picked up on Holden Beach, NC, four years ago. A botched beach renourishment project accidentally delivered thousands of tons of fossilifeorus Cretaceous sediment onto the barrier island.

A small domed echinoid - sea urchin relative - that is white with five finely lined flower petal like marks on the test (shell). It is perfectly hemispherical and sitting on a sandy beach.
