Flew to Chicago for first leg of 3 orchestras in 3 nights but got a fever. Canceled the Grand Rapids and Detroit concerts this morning…and now alas am canceling the CSO’s Belshazzar’s Feast and flying home tonight. Fever is gone but GI issue would make concert impossible. Huge frowny face.

It is gut wrenching. Went there a few seasons ago for Elgar 2 the same night as a Taylor Swift concert. I wonder if she has any money.

That happened to me the day before a holiday. I could see the cart fill up on the app, substitutions they made etc. they were almost done, and then poof. Canceled.

I forgot to include COPLAND in my earlier post. I’d never heard his Clarinet Concerto before. What an amazing piece.

Season opener with the SPCO playing SEEGER, IVES, and BEETHOVEN. (I hate digital only programs. I printed this out at home.)

That is the recording that I cut my teeth on, so I am biased. The English orchestra famously balked at it. I wouldn’t want every performance of it at that tempo, but golly it was a moment.

And the right has so demonized renewables, the US moving in that direction seems almost as impossible as the Strait being open again.

Saw an interesting bit with Hilary Clinton yesterday and she admitted this as a pickle that isn't easily fixed, but felt that working with the EU and China (somthing this admin is incapable of doing in a meaningful way) could help open the Strait. But nothing fast or easy.

When I complained in another forum that ancient musicians like Herbert Blomstedt need to step aside, I was accused of ageism. But when someone is clinging to power with their cold, almost dead hands that accusation rings hollow. (For my part I'm retiring at 57. Let the youngsters have a chance. lol)

I'm also not upset that Marc-André Hamelin is going to be performing and, although not necessarily a fan of him as a conductor, am fasctinated that Klaus Mäkäle will be there as a cellist.

Last night, when it was far too late and I was too tired to be making big decisions, I put a deposit down on an 8-day tour for the Lofoten Island International Chamber Music Festival in July 2027. This morning? I regret nothing.

I got this print of the Akron under construction for about $5 at an auction. Did some sleuthing and the artist was responsible for helping recruit about 3000 Americans to join the Canadian Air Force prior to the US entering WWII.

Not only did I meet Robert Kraft, I worked for him. His kid Jonathan asked me to “remove the black music” from my gameday playlist in ‘94 & I refused so they fired me. I was the cheerleader director at the time. I sued them for wrongful termination and won. So yes, I know that motherfucker.

I’m not sure I agree. Increasing public sentiment could do more to change things, plus those donations never would have happened if Macklemore hadn’t said what he said.

The president is just such a stupid asshole. I know we try to ascribe motives to this guy but he’s at the end of the day, when the story is written, just a dumdum idiot with a tiny brain that don’t work so good.

Hearing this track on Minnesota Public Radio about 30 years ago prompted me to spend scarce cash on the not cheap 2-disc set from which it comes. And Louis Gottschalk had a lot of fun doing a fabulously wacky arrangement of it. open.spotify.com/track/2RyWoc...

I wish I had listened to this recording before I linked to it. It kind of sucks. Overly mannered, they sucked the joy right out of it. Do yourself a favor and listen to the version by the Gulbenkian Orchestra. The playing isn't perfect, but so much more enjoyable.

When I dropped Audible cold turkey because Bezos is a bitch, all of my Eric Ambler downloads were lost to me. Now, there are only two Ambler titles available on Audible and every other audiobook source I can find. I've written to his estate to find out what the H happened.

Classical music marketing that doesn't list the program drives me batty. What do we think, Verdi's Requiem or Beethoven 9?

I don’t think opposition to a data center is just a stand in for run of the mill NIMBYism. However, the North Loop has transformed dramatically enough that opposition to other industrial uses wouldn’t be surprising. (Nor out of place?)
