This Fucking Guy, 2001 4th St, New York This is what I think about on 911. Not the horror of photographing the collapse of the towers from my stoop. I can barely look at those photos. I think about this feckless idiot and how he divorced this country from reality. ICE would not exist without him.

This black-and-white photo from a Star flash camera shows a building in what was known as The Ladies’ Mile Historic District. Historically, the area served as a retail hub for New Yorkers during the mid- to late-1800s and into the early 20th century. It was called the “heart of the Gilded Age.”

The name “Ladies’ Mile” was given because of the fashionable row of department stores along Broadway where women regularly shopped. According to Jack Taylor, president of The Drive to Protect the Ladies’ Mile District, “All these great buildings, all this shopping, engendered a feeling of opulence. And because it was so popular, that made it safe for women to go shopping unaccompanied by men for the first time.”
